Licensed School Nurses are responsible, as the recognized healthcare expert in the school setting, for coordinating, managing, and promoting the health and safety of individual students to minimize or eliminate health related barriers to learning.
Advocacy and Support - LSN’s with their unique knowledge and experience are able to evaluate and advocate for students’ health needs, and potential barriers thus enabling them to receive appropriate accommodations and support to participate fully in their educational process.
IHP - We write Individual Health Plan's for students with medical conditions and partner with case managers to coordinate medical needs into the students IEP.
Provide vision and hearing screenings.
Provide care for both acute and chronic health conditions and / or specialized care for students with medically complex needs.
Student wellness, first aid as needed but we also provide emergency care.
Planning, training, intervention and collaboration with families
Student social and emotional needs.
Promoting health measures
Monitoring and requiring immunizations
Following exclusion guidelines for various conditions
Responsible for disease prevention and infection control for communicable disease surveillance
Reporting specific illnesses to the Department of Health (Reporting as required to MDH)
Infectious Disease management in the population
