To Our Beloved Clients and Community,
After years of heartfelt service, the time has come for Cannamazoo to close its doors. This decision is not born of failure, but of a deep commitment to stay true to the values that guided us from the beginning. To every patient, customer, vendor, and staff member who walked this journey with us—thank you. You gave this place purpose.
Cannamazoo was Kalamazoo County’s second licensed dispensary and the 21st in the state. We didn’t open with fanfare—we opened with care. The building we moved into had a troubled past, once operating as a bar where multiple shootings occurred each year. Since we opened our doors, not a single violent crime has taken place on our property. That transformation is a testament to what’s possible when peace, patience, and kindness become the foundation of a place.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, our team recognized that many in our community work first, second, and third shifts—and that their needs didn’t fit inside a 9-to-5 schedule. It was their compassion and insight that led us to become Michigan’s first 24-hour dispensary—not for attention, but to serve. That spirit of generosity shaped everything we did.
We did our best to operate with integrity, humility, and self-control. We charged fair prices, paid what we owed, and stayed faithful to the law, even as others began cutting corners. When the pressure mounted to compromise, we chose instead to close—because we were never here just to make money.
There was a time when this work felt sacred. We remember sitting with the terminally ill, comforting grieving families, and supporting people for whom cannabis was a final option. Those moments were marked by gentleness, love, and deep compassion. It was never just a job—it was a calling.
What changed wasn’t us. It was the industry. The rapid flood of unregulated products, falling prices, and a shift toward profit over people made it harder to serve with the same heart. We don’t hold resentment—only a gentle reminder that every dollar spent shapes the world we live in.
There are countless ways to earn a living. But not all of them allow you to sow joy, faithfulness, and goodness into your community. Align yourself with those who reflect the values you want to see flourish. You won’t just earn—you’ll build something beautiful.
To our clients—thank you for your trust.
To our staff—thank you for your loyalty and love.
To our community—thank you for letting us be part of your story.
We close our doors with peace in our hearts, believing we’ve left this place better than we found it.
With gratitude,
The Cannamazoo Team
