Canada Institute of Linguistics is offering a number of media and language related workshops in Summer 2026.

The Workshop on Grammatical Description is designed for experienced SIL fieldworkers, though it is open to anyone who could profit from nine weeks of focused time working on a grammatical description, with the support and under the guidance of SIL Global linguistics consultants. The default goal of the workshop is for each participant or team to produce a 30-page or longer grammar sketch that gives a brief overview of some key morphological and syntactic features of a language.

Create media that promotes local languages and culture and encourages engagement with the Scriptures! Become familiar with using audio and video equipment for different purposes. Produce a variety of media products from start to finish such as dramatized scriptures, radio drama, music and music-video production, a documentary, short films and radio spots.
This course / workshop provides a theoretical and practical basis for cataloging dictionary entries and their meanings using a lexical database (FieldWorks) and producing print, web and mobile dictionaries for a variety of audiences including local communities, translators and linguists.
