About me
My name is Teal Palmer and I live in Poland with my husband Brian, my two sons Tucker and Hudson, and my pit bull Gunner.
This is my seventh year working at CVMS. Before coming home to Canfield I taught 6th grade ELA and 6th, 7th, and 8th grade history in Kent, Ohio. I attended Canfield when I was younger and am so happy to be teaching in my hometown.

Class overview
This year I hope to instill a love of reading and writing in my students. Canfield follows the Common Core Standards and those are what will used to create lessons. I am looking forward to getting to know each and every single one of your children and can't wait to experience this school year with them. Below you will find an overview of what happens in class.
Students will focus on reading several short stories and selections from our new series, My Perspectives. The text is divided into relevant themes with essential questions, stories from different genres, and activities to support the unit themes.
Open-book tests and quizzes will be given over any of the stories read in the textbook. On state tests, students can access the stories to go back into the text to arrive at conclusions and answers and should have that same opportunity in the classroom. This does not mean the tests are easy. The tests are set up very similarly to the state testing format.
As we read the different units, students will independently read a class novel and complete various activities that coincide with lessons and themes in the textbook. The books being read this year will be Doll Bones, The Giver, and hopefully Where the Red Fern Grows.
Students will be responding daily to various prompts and questions from the Interactive Read-Aloud's as well as completing numerous other small writing tasks on a weekly basis.
Students will also be working on composing a big writing assignment every nine weeks. The main types of writing that will be covered this year are narrative, argumentative, and informative.
We will also be going over basic grammar, parts of speech, and punctuation rules throughout the week by looking at and going over sentences from mentor texts.
Absent: If a student is absent they are expected to log into Google Classroom to see what work they missed!
