April and May Activities

GREETINGS FROM MRS. HAURIN

I certainly miss seeing all of you!!!

Welcome back from your week off!

April and May are exciting times in Physical Education class as the weather keeps getting nicer and we are concluding our gym classes with a lot of fun activities. This is a time when we review many skills we have worked on during the year and add some outdoor games.

With our situation this year, I thought I would give you some challenges and suggestions for backyard activity that you can do alone or with some family members. Be creative and have fun.

The warm-up activities that are already posted on the website are always good to do to stay in shape. There are some additional agilities listed for you. The key is for you to KEEP MOVING daily as you have time.

SUGGESTIONS FOR ACTIVITIES - Pick the ones you want to do:

-JUMP ROPE - 50 times (if you don't have a rope pretend to twirl one)

-Hop Scotch: hop on one foot followed by a straddle(do this ten times) then switch to hopping on the other foot followed by a straddle 10 times.

-Jump side to side over a line 50 times

-Shuffle one direction 5 times and back the other way 5 times(repeat 3 times)

-Dribble a ball 25 times in a row(Kindergarten and first may use two hands if necessary)(second, third and fourth use one hand and switch to the other hand after 25)

-Dribble while moving to a line and turn around and go back. Repeat 5 times. Remember to turn toward the ball when you pivot and switch hands.

-Shooting -If you have a basketball hoop mark a line a short distance in front of the basket and see how many shots you can make in a row or how many out of ten. Third and fourth may try foul shots (15 feet in front of basket). If you don't have a hoop just make a target and throw a ball of any kind or a rolled up piece of paper at the target in the same way.

-RIDE YOUR SCOOTERS AND BIKES, JOG OR RUN - GREAT EXERCISE!!!!!!!

-Shuttle run - mark two lines on driveway about 15 steps apart. Run from one line to the other and back. At first do 4 of these-each time you touch the line count 1. Each day you can increase the number to 6, 8 or 10. Do what you are able to do.

GAGA PIT

AND YES, THIS IS THE TIME OF YEAR THAT WE BRING OUT THE GAGA PIT - Here are some suggestions for home-

--Use one wall or use several people as the walls. Pass the ball( open hand style hit) to the wall if alone or to the other people. There is no elimination in this game - play as a team. Work together to keep the ball going. If alone see how many times you can pass it on the wall before losing control then start again. If playing as a group, see how long you can keep the ball going within the circle before losing it. Count the number of hits that it successfully stays in the circle and try to reach a greater number with each new start. USE A NERF BALL.

--This can also be played soccer style using your foot to pass the ball.

--Mom and Dad - if you want to build a pit in the yard , check GAGA out online (hours of entertainment)

--GREAT EYE HAND AND EYE FOOT COORDINATION FOR ALL AGE GROUPS.

THESE ARE GREAT IDEAS FOR FAMILY FUN TIME - I'M SURE WE CAN ALL USE THIS NOW!!

HOPE TO SEE YOU BACK AT SCHOOL BEFORE THE END OF THE YEAR!! STAY BUSY AND MAKE GOOD CHOICES!!
