Mr. Hamilton's Guidelines for Recommendations
Provide Advance Notice
I welcome recommendation requests from students at least 2 weeks before the deadline.
(Do NOT wait until the last minute.)
How to Ask / Follow-Up
You can ask about a recommendation either in person or via e-mail. However, please check in with me to ensure that I received your inquiry. Also, please follow-up with me periodically until I verify it has been sent.
Provide Me Specifics
If you have completed a "CHS Senior Brag Sheet", sharing it with me electronically is preferred.
What is the recommendation for (college admissions, scholarships, summer program, etc.)?
Is it for a specific recipient ("The Ohio State University") or generic ("college admissions")?
Is it submitted electronically? If so, send me an e-mail link or add me in Naviance (if applicable).
Is it mailed through USPS? If so, please provide me with the envelope as indicated below.
Provide Me Additional Information About You
I am capable of writing about my perspectives of you as a student and/or as a member of the Speech & Debate Team. In order for me to further personalize the recommendation, I would appreciate it if you could provide me a brief listing of information that I might not know about you. For example: extracurricular activities, hobbies, work, community involvement, intended major / area of focus in college.
Want an Exemplary Recommendation?
As would be expected, recommendations will be most stellar for those who demonstrated respect, responsibility, and effort in the classroom and/or on the Speech & Debate Team. That being said, I will write a recommendation for any current CHS student I know who has provided at least 2 weeks notice and who is agreeable to the provision below.
I will NOT provide you or your parent(s)/guardian(s) with a copy of the recommendation.
I will only send the recommendation directly to the recipient(s) (schools, organizations, etc.).
You (the student) MUST waive your right to see the recommendation (if applicable).
