Reporting an Absence
If your child will be absent from school or will arrive late, please report the absence/late arrival in PickUp Patrol (see below for details). This notifies both the attendance secretary and the teacher
To avoid receiving an automated attendance call, report the absence/late arrival by 8:00am
If your student will be absent for three or more days, complete a pre-excused absence request
Early Departures
If you need to pick your child up early from school, please report the early dismissal in PickUp Patrol (see below for details)
When you arrive at the school, call the office at (503) 263-7190 to let us know that you've arrived, and we'll walk them out or just come to the front door
To minimize delays for you, we do our best to monitor the early departure list in PickUp Patrol; however, please give yourself plenty of time, as we may not always have your student ready to go if we are attending to a high volume of student needs in the office
Transportation
PickUp Patrol
Student dismissal plans are tracked in PickUp Patrol
The PickUp Patrol web app is free and can be used from a smartphone or computer; the app is not accessed through the app store but rather through an internet browser (click here for instructions on how to add it to your phone's home screen)
Parents new to Carus will receive a welcome email with instructions for setting up their PickUp Patrol accounts; returning parents will use their log-in information from last year
New parents will need to set up a default dismissal plan for their students; returning parents will need to review and confirm their students' dismissal plans
We're have rolled our data over into the new school year on PickUp Patrol and you can log on and set up/confirm your student's default dismissal plan if they are pick-up; bus routes have not yet been released so bus riders dismissal plans will have to be updated at a later time
Car Drop-off and Pick-up
Arrival
If you'll be dropping your student off at school, please enter the front parking lot and drive all the way to the end of the curb
All students will enter through the front doors
Parents walking students to class are required to park in a parking spot and will need to enter through the office
Hand sanitizing upon arrival is encouraged
Students may not under any circumstance be dropped off before 7:40am. There is no supervision available before this time.
Dismissal
Families who will be picking up will receive a color-coded car tag with their student's/students' name(s): K-2 (orange), 3-4 (green), 5-6 (blue), families with multiple grade levels (yellow) at Meet and Greet
When you arrive, please enter the front parking lot and park in a spot or drive all the way to the end of the curb
A staff member will mark that you've arrived and call your student from the building
You may be directed to park while you wait for your student
Students must be picked up by 2:45pm. There is no supervision available after this time.
Buses
Bus Routes
Click here to view bus routes. Please note 2023-24 bus routes will not be updated until 8/31/23
Click here to use the Traversa Ride 360 app to find the latest information and to track your student's bus in real time
Bus transportation is provided by Student Transportation of America; they can be reached at (503) 263-1007
If your student will be picked up from, or dropped off at, an address other than your home address as part of their normal routine, please email carus-office@canby.k12.or.us; the address must be within the Carus attendance boundary
Bus Safety
Bus drivers will not drop off kindergarten students without a designated adult at the stop to pick them up or older sibling accompanying them.
Changes to Transportation Plans
If you need to make a change to your child's dismissal plan for the day (e.g., picking up instead of having your student ride the bus), notify us using the PickUp Patrol app by 1:45pm; to avoid end of day confusion, changes to afternoon plans for going home can't be changed after this time
Changes must be entered in the PickUp Patrol; please avoid notes, emails, or phone calls, except in case of an emergency
Please keep changes to your child's afternoon transportation plans to an absolute minimum — thank you!

PTA
Through event organization, financial support, and volunteerism, our PTA plays a vital role in our school community

Health
Medications at School
If your student requires medication during school hours, you will need to complete an authorization form and drop off the medication during Meet and Greet
You can fill out the form ahead of time, but we will also have paper copies available
You must bring the medication with you to Meet and Greet labeled and in its original container; students may not transport medications
If you have questions about school medications, please contact our health assistant, Melinda Ross (melinda.ross@canby.k12.or.us)
