This term I have looked at capturing the words and feeling of Abstract and Strange within my photographs.
Over the course of the project I have looked at a number of different photographers such as Erwin Wurn to Vidle Rolfsen to Uta Barth. Out of all the people and techniques I have investigated My favourite was exploring double exposure. This is because this is an entirely new technique to me and I found learning how to create this technique using Pixlr E a good learning experience. Thinking about who was my favourite photographer, I would say this is Uta Barth. I have chosen her because she made me consider that not all photographs have to be in focus to be a 'good' quality image. It also made me think really hard as to how I can re-create her work skilfully, so my photos did not just look out of focus and wrong!
Over the course of the project I feel I have improved on my composition skills, I feel more confident in looking for interesting compositions rather than those that are more predictable. I also feel that my digital editing skills have improved each time I have used the software. I now know what to perform most basic edits in Pixlr E.
The skills, techniques or processes that I am not so confident with are using blur within my photos to add interest and also some of the more tricky editing steps such as applying multiple edits to one photo. I am really keen to continue to explore and improve my editing knowledge as I find this really fun.
If I could change one thing about my work during this project it would be to try and take more photos for each photo shoot as I feel at times I did not have enough to choose my best from. Once lockdown is over I feel that I will be able to use more locations in my work which should help me.
The reason I selected the photos I did on my resolved outcomes page was that I felt each image had a strong lineal quality to it. They all had areas of very dark and very light. Once edited this was even more apparent.
I chose to arrange the photos in the way I did because I knew that I wanted to work with three photos, so a triptych was the obvious choice. I also knew that I wanted white area around the photos so each photo was seen in it own right as well as being in a miniseries.
