On Thursday, November 20th, we had seven members compete in the District IX LDE Contest. The following members competed in the following contests: Creed Speaking-Cooper Vaughan, Employment Skills-Baileigh Conner and Lilian Dufresne, Gulf of Mexico-Marie Guillory and Audrey Laborde, Prepared Public Speaking-Ty Duhon and Olivia Vasilakis. Baileigh Conner and Ty Duhon both placed second in their contests and will advance to the Area III Contest in December!
On November 18th, our Livestock Judging Team competed in the State Livestock Contest at Burton Coliseum. In this contest, members judge 7 classes of livestock animals and present oral reasons on their placings for 2 of the classes. Our members placed 19th out of 71 teams! Alainah Devall was ranked 2nd overall alternate, and Caden Harmon was ranked 10th overall.

We had the opportunity to attend the Bash on the Bayou event hosted by Louisiana 4-H and Louisiana FFA on Saturday, November 15th. LSU defeated Arkansas and the state FFA officers were recognized on the field during the game!

Grand Lake FFA hosted the first Greenhand Field Day Invitational on September 26th. Teams competed in opening and closing ceremonies, and took a written exam about FFA. Grand Lake FFA was first place, Elton FFA was second place, Iowa FFA was third place and Tioga FFA was fourth place. Bryson Ross from Grand Lake FFA was the highest scoring individual!

On September 22nd, our chapter officer team attended the Chapter Officer Leadership Training in Crowley. Officers were able to participate in leadership workshops, meet new members, and work together as a team to bring new ideas to our chapter!

Grand Lake FFA members attended the Cameron Parish Beach Sweep on September 20th. They traveled to Rutherford Beach to help clean up the coastline and improved the environment for wildlife that make their homes along the coastline. Our members are living to serve!

Ms. Delinda Landry finished second in the state in the FFA proficiency award of Beef Production-Entrepreneurship. Delinda owns her own show cattle business, raising Braford and Brahman cattle. She had to submit an application, be selected as a finalist and interview in front a panel of judges. She was selected as second in the state at the 96th Annual Louisiana Convention & Expo.
Ms. Baileigh Conner was elected to serve as the 2025-2026 Louisiana FFA State Area III Vice President at the 96th Annual Louisiana State FFA Convention & Expo. She will be properly installed into office and serve over 13,000 members in the state of Louisiana.
Baileigh Conner is a State Officer Candidate for the 2025-2026 Louisiana State FFA Officer Team. The nomination process takes place May 30th-June 1st, with six intensive rounds including: personal panel, stand and deliver, advocacy, faciliation, round robin, and ends with another personal panel. Results will be announced on June 2nd at the first business session of the Louisiana State Convention.
Ty Duhon is an Area III Officer Candidate for the 2025-2026 Area III Federation Officer Team. The nomination process takes place June 3rd-June 4th with four rounds including: personal panel, advocacy, stand and deliver, and ends with another personal panel. Results will be announced June 5th at the final session of the Louisiana State Convention.
Caden Picou, Olivia Vasilakis and Ty Duhon traveled to Ruston on May 22, 2o25 to partake in the mock area and state nomination process. During this training they were introduced to the process of area officer selection and went through three rounds of interviews that included: personal panel, stand and deliver and advocacy
The 2025-2026 Grand Lake FFA Officer Team was properly installed at our 49th Annual Awards Banquet. Congratulations to our new officers, we look forward to a successful year!
The final list of attendees for the Louisiana State Convention has been posted! The Louisiana State Convention will take place June 2-5, 2025. Each attendee is required to submit a $100 deposit and permission slip forms by Thursday, May 15 in order to hold your spot. Each attendee will be given a written letter, itinerary, packing list and permission slip. Please contact Ms. McCallister if you have any questions!
On April 10, we joined the Gulf Coast SWCD meeting! We were given a check for our efforts in the USDA/NRCS Tree Seedling Sale back in January. Our chapter President, Elizabeth Daigle accepts a check from the Gulf Coast SWCD Chairman, Mr. Bruce Watts on behalf of the Grand Lake FFA Chapter.
We would also like to thank Mrs. Danielle Vail for her help each year in coordinating this event and allowing our chapter to help sell tree seedlings!
On March 13th, our blue and gold vet science and livestock evaluation teams competed in the McNeese Invitational contest held at McNeese State University Farm. Vet Science Teams: Baileigh Conner, Marie Guillory, Calli McLemore, Madison Trahan, Kinley Brashear, Addyson Dargin, Audrey LaBorde, and Olivia Vasilakis. Livestock Evaluation Teams: Elizabeth Daigle, Alainah Devall, Ty Duhon, Madeleine Guidry, Hudson Hardie, Caden Harmon, Brady Hayes, and Delinda Landry.
Delinda Landry was selected as one of the finalists for the Beef Production-Entrepreneurship Proficiency Award. On March 10th, she traveled to Alexandria to answer questions about her beef production SAE. She will place in the top four at the State FFA Convention in June and we will know where she placed within the top four as she takes her place on stage at the convention center!
Baileigh Conner and Delinda Landry have met the qualifications and requirements to obtain the Louisiana State FFA Degree. This is the highest degree that can be earned at the state level! To qualify for the state degree, students must: have received the chapter degree, been an active member for at least two years, have earned or productively invested at least $1,000, or worked at least 300 hours in their SAE project, have at least 25 hours of community service and participated in at least 5 different FFA activities above the chapter level. Both Baileigh and Delinda will receive their State Degrees at the State FFA Convention in June.
On March 20th, our blue and gold vet science teams competed in the Area 3 CDE contest held at McNeese State University Farm. The blue team consisted of: Baileigh Conner, Marie Guillory, Calli McLemore and Madison Trahan. The gold team consisted of: Kinley Brashear, Addyson Dargin, Audrey LaBorde, and Olivia Vasilakis. Alainah Devall competed as an alternate in the contest. The veterinary science contest is comprised of 50 identification questions and a 50 question multiple choice exam.
Grand Lake FFA members participated in the 2025 Cameron Parish Beach Sweep on September 20th. They spent their morning cleaning up Rutherford Beach and the Cameron Parish coastline.
