As we announced last year, Camp Onas began the work of replacing our showerhouses in October, with the goal of having the new buildings ready to welcome campers and staff this season.
Unfortunately, we’ve recently had to accept that the new showerhouses won’t be ready in time for summer, which means we’re renting temporary restroom and shower units this season.
Each side will have its own pair of trailers, one with toilets and sinks, the other with showers. The units will have hot and cold water, flushing toilets, and electricity– they will connect to our existing power, water, and septic, just like permanent buildings would.
Our construction team will soon shift its focus toward getting the sides ready for campers and staff to arrive: Cleaning up, seeding grass, and securing the buildings in preparation for construction to pause while campers and staff are living on the sides.
The units really are quite nice. The company we’ve partnered with installs trailers like these all over the country, and they are used for special events, on remote film sets, and even by some camps that rely on facilities like these every season.
Opportunities to adapt and grow in response to challenges are a part of what makes each Onas summer unique, joyful, and memorable. So, while we’re disappointed the new showerhouses won’t be ready this summer, we also know Onas campers and staff are a resilient, flexible, and adventurous group. Because of this, we are confident this summer will still be a fun-packed, safe, and memorable one, filled with Onas spirit.
