The final Wonder Wednesday broadcast celebrated Asian American Pacific Islander (AAPI) month. CUSD Board Member, Richard Nguyen, interviewed Aaron Albano about his experience as an Asian American in the arts. Passionate about musical theatre and dance, first-generation Filipino American Aaron Albano grew up in San Jose, honing his skills. After college, Aaron moved to New York City and has been in 10 Broadway shows, including Wicked, The King & I, and Cats. He most recently portrayed Charles Lee in Hamilton and also originated the role of Finch in Newsies.

Originally scheduled for January 11, 2nd graders took a virtual field trip to Sharks Ice at Tech CU Arena. 2nd graders met with Richard Rocha, General Manager at the arena, and learned about how the zamboni, the concrete floor at the arena and other systems are constantly changing water and other substances from liquid to vapor to solid.
December 7th, our 5th Grade & Middle schoolers met Alla and Anwar Muhammad. These two scientists and chemical engineers were in Mr. Pittman's 5th and 6th grade class years ago, and have returned to share their experiences as a medical technologist and as a process engineer at Procter and Gamble. This WW broadcast also includes a student follow along lab activity.
October 26th, to connect with our 3rd Grade Twig Science Module 1 we met landscape artist, Eric Plato. Eric showed us how he has used the engineering design process to plan and build our Campbell USD playgrounds. He taught us about the 8 senses, drawings, iterations, criteria and constraints!
On October 19th our Innovation Specialists and a few students took us on an engineering Design Sprint to get students thinking about some potential design opportunities at their school. Some teams are then going to bring their ideas to life by applying for our Innovation Team Grants for funding!
On September 14th, to connect with our 4th Grade Twig Science Module 1, we met auto mechanic and Lynhaven parent, Luis Peña! He showed us different parts of a car and how they all work together to create energy and protect passengers from a collision.
Richard Nguyen shared his memories as a former Campbell student, his upbringing and background, the role of a school board, and how his life experiences help inform the decisions he makes on the school board.
We went on a virtual field trip Kerry Perkins to see our student-created Centennial Exhibit! Sean Mendelson, a Climate Reality Leader and father in our district, also shared about the past present, and future of climate change, and how we can help!

During CUSD Wellness Week, we explored our brains with Leah Adams, School Counselor! Students learned about the 3 parts of the brain and how they work together to help us learn and keep us safe.

We went on a behind the scenes tour with Benny Calderon and Trevor Walker to learn more about our school district's present learning environment. We saw how our lunches are made, technology is supported, and met some of the many people that keep our district thriving!

Lino Gutierrez, Sheila Struthers, and Shelley Wedel shared some of their favorite memories, how the district has changed, and how it has stayed the same! They are all Campbell Union School District employees who are also former students. Kerry Perkins also shared ways that museum exhibits can tell now and then stories.
We went on an adventure to the Campbell Historical Museum to learn from Museum Supervisor, Kerry Perkins how to design a museum experience. She taught us how exhibits tell stories and how students will design the museum's newest exhibit! Sergio Lopez also shared some of his favorite memories a former emerging bilingual CUSD student to Campbell City Council Member!
Happy 100 years of learning Campbell Union School District! We went back in time to learn about the past 100 years of our school district and community. Our superintendent, Shelly Viramontez, shared her experience as both a student and now leader of CUSD. Kerry Perkins from the Campbell Historical Museum shared what learning looked like in the early years of our district.
We know how much fun pets can be, but they also rely on us for their care, which is a big responsibility. On June 2nd, veterinarian Dr. Tiffany Riser shared how to take care of a pet, introduced us to her dog Blackjack, and gave us a tour of the Banfield Pet Hospital.
Calling all chocolate lovers! General Manager, Khoa Nguyen, took us on a virtual field trip to our local Snake & Butterfly chocolate factory on May 26th. He taught us about the chocolate making process and even made a cup of hot chocolate with us! If you want to make a cup of hot chocolate, please have a microwavable mug, a spoon, 1 cup of milk, a chocolate bar, and some optional toppings (marshmallows, whipped cream, candy, etc). Please ask an adult to help you use the microwave!
Any chocolate bar will work for the hot chocolate, but we recommend buying one from Snake & Butterfly in Downtown Campbell if you are able to - to support this local, family-owned business!
Beyond the mist lies a magical secret waiting to be discovered... From Epic! Originals, Unicorn Island is a middle-grade illustrated novel series about a young girl who discovers a mysterious island full of mythical beasts and darker dangers! On May 19th, author Donna Galanti shared how worldbuilding can help your story world, the power of brainstorming, and read part of her new book.
On May 12th, the 49ers EDU STEAM team showed us how Levi's Stadium uses renewable resources to combat their energy usage. Through a hands-on STEAM activity, we explored how math and science are very much a part of 49ers football! Materials to participate in the activity: a cereal box (or any cardstock box), 10 quarters (or other coins), 2 pieces of paper, scissors, a pencil or markers, tape or glue, and paperclips or bag clips.
Is the night sky a mystery to you? On May 5th, Benjamin Mendelsohn, Director of the brand new Kvamme Planetarium at West Valley College, took us on a tour of the night sky. We explored some of the constellations, heard some myths, learned about black holes and supernovas, and much more!

On April 28th, Author Andrea Wang read her new book Watercress and taught us how to turn a memory into a story. She shared her story of gathering watercress by the side of the road and how it brought her closer to her family's Chinese heritage.
On April 21st, Kerry Perkins, Museum Supervisor, took us on a virtual field trip to our local Campbell Historical Museum! We learned that the first cars in our community were electric cars driven from the backseat, Campbell was one of the first cities in the country to have a mail system, and some people even mailed babies!
On April 14th, we went on a tour of this student-run farm in our Campbell community! The students in the agriculture program raise plants (sometimes more than 5,000 a year from seeds!), small animals (rabbits, guinea pigs, and chickens), and large animals (pigs, sheep, goats, and cattle).

3, 2, 1, blast off! On March 31st, space systems engineer, Jeremy Scheerer, taught us how to build our own paper rockets and launch them with a straw! Please print out a copy of this paper rocket and have a straw, scissors, and a few pieces of tape close by. We also had a special visit from the NASA Encounters team!

If you want to do a hands-on experiment with Emily, have a bowl, spoon, 1 cup of cornstarch, 1/2 cup of water, and food coloring close by. Please do not put the finished experiment down the drain (it will clog), throw it away in the trash.
Meet #1 Best Selling Author Jory John and Illustrator Erin Kraan. They celebrated the launch of their new book, Something's Wrong!, and shared how they created the illustrations!
On March 17, author Christine Evans, shared her brand new series, The Wish Library with us. She also talked about how a small idea can turn into a whole book series and taught us about squiggle drawing!
On March 10th, product data analyst, Tiffany Washburn, from Waymo took us on a deeper dive to learn more about self-driving cars. We learned that we may soon be able to ride these cars in San Francisco, that they have never been the cause of a traffic accident, and much more!
On March 3rd, Elizabeth Hull, Manresa Bread's pastry shift lead, took us on a "behind the counter" tour of the bakery. We got to see them making some of their famous breads and they answered our many questions about the baking process!
On February 10th, local musician Justin Imamura taught us about drumming! We learned basic drumming exercises using objects found in our homes and learning spaces. Please have an empty shoebox (or other container) and two markers/pens/pencils close by to drum!
On February 3, we went on a virtual field trip with UNICEF and the Tech Interactive! Our guest speakers from UNICEF's Innovation Unit showed us how they use data science and technology to help fight global diseases like Ebola and Coronavirus.
On Wednesday, January 27th we did an engineering design challenge with the Tech Interactive! What bugs you about your face mask? We designed ways to improve the face mask experience for each other.
On Wednesday, January 20th, Ranger Jenny took us on a tour of the Calaveras Big Trees State Park! We learned about the largest living things on the planet: the Giant Sequoia trees, how forest fires can actually help trees grow, and much more!

On January 13th, Benny Calderon took us on a tour of our Campbell Central Kitchen to learn more about how our school lunches are made! We learned that pizza is the most popular school lunch and that over 3,000 meals are created there and shared with our schools daily! Julie Lefko from Calfresh also facilitated a guided tasting of a kiwi.
On December 2nd, Karen Parker the Education Program Manager of the Google CS First Team shared with us about computer science. She challenged us to think about if we want to be technology creators or consumers. We worked on a computational thinking activity, Network The Neighborhood.
