Happy Friday Room 18 Families!
It’s been so nice getting to meet with many of our families to talk about your student’s goals for this year. Thank you for your kind words, positive feedback, and continued support. It’s an honor to work with such an amazing community.
If your meeting is coming up next week, please be sure to bring your student. They have been working hard on special presentations, and are excited to share their learning goals with you!
Below you will find some information on what the students have worked on this week.
ELA:
-This week, students read several articles about fish farming & worked on a short essay. They worked on finding text evidence, and using quotation marks when using another author’s writing. Students practiced identifying homophones by participating in a “detective” activity. Our spelling list was short this week (7 words) & was centered around r-Controlled vowel words.
Social Studies:
-Students continued working on a lapbook to help them learn the different states and capitals. This week, we focused on the northeast region. They will have their last region quiz on Thursday 10/8!
*Thank you to everyone for all of the postcards! Our map is filling up and we are about halfway(ish) there! Please continue to ask friends & family to send us postcards for The Great Postcard Race 2025
Math:
The students began Module 2: Multi-Digit Whole Number and Decimal Fraction Operations this week. We started with multi-digit whole number multiplication (mental math & standard algorithm). We will continue with Topic B next week.
*Khan Academy math is directly related to the Eureka modules. This is assigned to students via GoogleClassroom and they can watch videos and do practice problems for every topic we cover (it is organized by unit and topic). *****This is a fantastic resource for students!!******
Science
Students made their final observations of the compost bins! It was so cool to see how the materials have decomposed, and how new organisms started to emerge. After we recorded our final data, we released our worms and soil into the garden.

Science Camp
Paperwork for science camp was sent home in Thursday folders this week! Please make sure you check through this. The paperwork is due on Friday, November 6th.
Book Fair
We will be visiting the Book Fair next Tuesday, October 6th. If you would like your children to make purchases at the Fair, please send them to school with the amount they are allowed to spend, or sign up for eWallet on our Scholastic site below. While browsing the Fair, children will have the opportunity to fill out a wish list to share with you. If you’d like to purchase any of their requests or browse our Fair, we will be open after school in the Cafeteria on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday, and Wednesday from 5:00-7: 00 p.m. You can also visit our dedicated Fair website at https://www.scholastic.com/bf/farnhamelementaryschool to order online, and your purchases will be shipped directly to your home.
