Open math tasks that range in complexity
The primary purpose of the CSD Summer School program is to provide options for students from all three high schools to recover credits required for graduation and/or develop skills to support success in core classes. Summer School priority is given to students who live within the CSD boundaries and were in grades 9-12* during the 2020-2021 school year.
Time Frame and Schedule
6 week courses for credit recovery AM/PM time frames.
Dates: June 28-August 6
AM Session: 8:00-10:30, 8:00-10:00 In-Person Content Area Support, 10:00-10:30 one-on-one support/tutoring
PM Session: 11:00-1:30, 11:00-11:30 one-on-one support/tutoring, 11:30-1:30 In-Person focused Content Area Support
In-Person Location: Hayes Freedom High School
2021 Summer School Sign Up Form (May 17th-June 24)
Format:
Teachers will use a hybrid of online and teacher driven activities to support the specific skill development for each individual student to meet the standards. Along with the information provided by the teachers of the course that was failed, the summer school teachers will give a pretest to determine the areas of focus and set a plan with the student to recover credit. Teachers will be expected to do at the very minimum some mini-lessons. The summer school teacher will be responsible for the content of the coursework. Teachers using an online component can choose to have students attend 2 or 3 days a week as long as the students are making progress.
Course Recommendations: Students are limited to 2 semester courses to begin with. If enough progress has been made permission can be obtained through the Summer School Coordinator to take additional courses.
Courses Available:
Humanities- World History, US History, Contemporary World History
Language Arts- English 9, 10, 11, and 12,
Science- Physical Science, Biology, Chemistry
Math- Algebra I*, Geometry*, Algebra II, Bridge to Algebra*
PE/Health- High school health, PE independent
*Also available for credit advancement through APEX, not hybrid
Cost: $150 per 0.50 credit
Scholarships available for students who need support please note that on your application
Maximum cost is $450 for students who sign up for multiple courses
Requirements
Hybrid Requirement: Students who participate in the hybrid option will be required to attend the AM or PM session in the subject they are enrolled in per teacher request.
Fully Online Requirement: Students who choose fully online options for summer school will be required to have a weekly live check-in with our APEX support staff.
