I lost my charger. How do I get a new one? First, look for the old one. Check the lost and found, the library, the office, and anywhere else it could be. If you still can't find it, pay for your charger ($25) with Mrs. Macias. If you want to pay online, see Ms. Logan to have a fine created. Then, bring the reciept to the library to get a new charger.
I left my Chromebook at home. What do I do? Come to the library and borrow a 1-day loaner. Return it by the end of the day.
My Chromebook isn't charged. What do I do? Each SMS teacher should have 2 chargers you can borrow in the classroom. If not (or if you have a substitute who doesn't know where that is), come down to the library to check out a 1-day loaner. Be sure to return it by the end of the day.
I have a fine for a library book, textbook, or tech item. What do I do? First, look for the item. If you can find it, bring it to the library so Ms. Logan can check it in and the fine will go away. If you have looked for the item and can't find it, then pay the fine either online or with Mrs. Macias. We would always prefer to have the item back instead of the fine money.
My Chromebook is broken. What do I do? Come down to the library and talk to Ms. Logan.
My Chromebook is missing. What do I do? First, breathe. 99% of the time they show up within an hour. Retrace your steps, check the office, and check the lost and found. If you can't find it, come down to the library and Ms. Logan will help you.
Can I donate books to the library? The Skyridge Library follows the adopted Collection Development Policy of the Camas School District. Donated books that adhere to this policy may be added to the library collection depending on interest, condition, and space. Any donated books not added to the library collection will either be added to our "free" library or donated to the Friends of the Camas Public Library.
How many library books can I check out? Students may have up to 5 books at a time (2 graphic novels/manga). Most books are checked out for 3 weeks. Graphic Novels/Manga are limited to 2 at a time and are checked out for 1 week.
I'm not finished with my book, but it's due. What do I do? Come in to the library and ask to renew your book. If the book has been marked lost, you will need to bring it in to renew it.
I'm finished with a book. How do I return it? Bring your book back to the library. Scan it using the scanner on the counter, and place the book in the silver tray.
I think the library should get a book. What do I do? Talk to Ms. Logan or write down your suggestion. If it falls within our collection development policy, she will try to get a copy.
There is a book in the library I don't like. What do I do? Libraries should have books for all readers, but not all books are for all readers. Choose a book you do like, and return any book you don't like.
Why do I have to read? Reading for pleasure is one of the key predictors of future academic and economic success. It's also good for you. Did you know that reading for 6 minutes can decrease stress by up to 68%? Reading also offers healthy, low-risk ways to think through difficult challenges before they happen in real-life.
What do Teacher Librarians do all day? In addition to making sure the library has the books students want and need, Teacher Librarians instruct students on how to find, evaluate, and ethically use information, how to be smart media users, how to live balanced digital lives, and how to conduct academic research. We support classroom instruction by finding materials for teachers and co-teaching when appropriate. We ensure smart use of resources and district funds by keeping track of what we have and facilitating sharing within the building, across the district, and with community partners. We repair damaged books whenever possible to ensure the collection stays in good condition. We also run school- or district-wide literacy programs and create a safe, fun, welcoming environment for the entire school community. Most Teacher Librarians also raise non-taxpayer funds for library materials though book fairs, grant writing, and other fundraising programs.
