Camas High School Tennis Attendance Policy
Players are expected to be at all tennis matches and practices. The staff understands that family emergencies and life events happen that are unavoidable. Absences caused by such events are understandable.
It is expected that students inform Head Coach Jonathan Burton of an absence ahead of time whenever possible. It is also expected that students are not absent for frivolous reasons. Absences unrelated to doctors’ appointments, family emergencies, illness, or other reasons outside of the student’s control, will be considered excused with prior approval. The following protocol will be followed.
1st unexcused absence: The student will be given a warning.
2nd unexcused absence: The student will sit out the next match.
3rd unexcused absence: The student will sit out the next two matches.
4th unexcused absence: The student will meet with Coach Burton and the Athletic Director to discuss removal from the team. Parents are welcome at this meeting.
If a player chooses to leave, or has another commitment outside of tennis that does not meet with excused absences (music lessons, etc.), they risk losing position on the ladder. Others below them, who are present at the match, and are willing to play, will be moved up to fill their position. Anyone who misses more than 8 practices either excused for unexcused will conference with Coach Burton to determine if they are sufficiently committed to the team. Long-term illness and injury are exempt from 8 absence rule. Students must play at least half of the pre-season matches to be eligible for regular season play. This exclusion is not an issue if the student is injured.
