Grab your passport and a pair of sunglasses and let team MFL take you on our "virtual tours" around Spain and France. By the end, you will really feel like you've jetted off somewhere amazing! (Hint, this is best viewed on a tablet/computer, and you may find it easier to open in a new window)
Once you have completed one, or both tours, complete the task below.
Bonjour! I'm Miss Roberts (on the right). This photo was taken in Spain, and the girl I'm sat next to was my Spanish penpal from when I was in Year 7. We wrote to each other until we were 20!
Although I speak Spanish as well, I mostly teach French at CAM. I am the Director of Learning Zone (Head of Department) for MFL.
Ciao! I'm Mr Tatananni. I am Italian and I teach Spanish and French. In the picture I was backpacking in Cuba, where I learned Spanish. I love fishing and cooking, which means that yes, I can make a pretty decent pizza!
Bonjour! I'm Miss Lamkhantar. I am French, from Tours which is not very far from Paris!
I mostly teach French with a little Spanish too.
Bonjour!
I am Miss Binks, a French and Spanish teacher at Coop Academy. Learning new languages and cultures has allowed to travel, make best friends in other countries, eat great food, understand the world better, and made it much easier for me to get a job. This picture is taken from when I lived in France!
Hola! My name is Miss Dos Santos and I teach Spanish but I also help students prepare for their Portuguese exams. I have lived in several different countries where I used to teach English. I love travelling and experiencing new cultures!
All lessons cover learning vocabulary, phonics, grammar and culture. below are the topics we will study in Year 7:
Half Term 1: Opinions
Half term 2: Talking about Yourself
Half term 3: Talking about others
Half term 4: Free-time activities
Half term 5: My House
Half term 6: My Town
Over the last 2 years we have organised the following events, to help students see the relevance of learning a language:
Futbol Lingo came in and delivered an assembly, informing students about language-related jobs in football. They also conducted a workshop with a smaller group of students. In this, students had to work together as a team and create a presentation in either French or Spanish to persuade the World Cup organisers to allow them to host the event.
Year 10 European Challenge: students competed virtually against other schools to design, promote and advertise a new brand of sweet. As part of this they also had to take part in a phone conversation and interview in Spanish. And we won!
Year 9 All in a Holiday Challenge: students competed virtually to put their language skills to good use in several business scenarios.
KS3 National Translation Bee: students compete initially at school level, with the winners competing at regional level and if successful, at national level.
