Join SAWIF for a screening of the 2018 short documentary Period. End of Sentence. from director Raya Zehtabachi.
The film tells the story of a group of local women in Hapur, India, as they learn how to operate a machine that makes low-cost and biodegradable sanitary pads. This not only helps to improve feminine hygeine by providing access to basic products, but also supports and empowers these women to shed taboos in India surrounding menstruation while simultaneously contributing to the economic future of their community.
After the screening, we will have an open discussion over tea and coffee about the film, its themes, how these issues effect fieldwork, and what can be done in the future.

Last term, we drafted a white paper of practical and policy suggestions dedicated to supporting women in South Asian fieldwork across diverse academic disciplines. It serves as tool for advocating a more inclusive and equitable hiring process and academic environment. This writing meeting aims to review progress and work on the paper before planning for effective distribution.
