My name is Myungun Kim, but I simply go by “Kim”.
I’m currently a College Assistant Professor in Economics at the University of Cambridge, where I’m also a fellow at Selwyn College. Alongside my teaching and research, I serve as a Tutor for Selwyn College and the Director of Studies for Robinson College.
My academic research centres around productivity—digging into the factors that drive efficiency and performance at the firm and industry levels. Right now, I’m fortunate to be part of The Productivity Institute, a collaborative effort funded by the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC). That said, my interests aren’t confined to economics alone. I have a deep curiosity for geography, history, and the arts, which often inform and inspire my work.
If there’s one guiding principle that shapes everything I do, it’s a philosophy borrowed from Otto Neurath, the brilliant thinker from the Vienna Circle. Neurath championed the idea that scientific and technical knowledge shouldn’t be reserved for an elite group of experts. Instead, it should be accessible and understandable to everyone. That belief is at the heart of how I approach teaching, research, and the way I communicate ideas.
I’m always excited to engage with people who share a passion for making complex ideas accessible.
