Girton College was established in 1869 as the first institution of Higher Education for women in the United Kingdom. We received our Royal Charter in 1924 and achieved full college status in 1948. In 1976, we became a coeducational community.

The earliest records of the MCR date back to 1949, though a postgraduate room may have existed before then.
