I am a Professor and the Director of the A.K.Choudhury School of Information Technology at the University of Calcutta and Adjunct Professor of IIIT Delhi. I am also the former Dean, Faculty of Engineering and Technology of his University during (2016-2019). I completed M.Tech. from the University of Calcutta (2001) and did Ph.D. from the same University in association with ISI, Kolkata (2010). I was a Post-Doctoral fellow at the School of Engineering, Princeton University, USA during 2011-2012. I have almost 20 years of experience in Engineering Education and Research. I received the DST BOYSCAST fellowship award in Engineering Science (2011), Indian National Science Academy (INSA) Visiting Faculty Fellowship (2014), JSPS Invitation Research Award (2016), Erasmus Mundus Leaders Award (2017), Hamied Visiting Professorship from University of Cambridge, UK (2018), Siksha Ratna Award by Dept. of Higher Education Govt. of West Bengal (2018) and IBM Quantum Researchers Access Award in 2021, was named a Fellow of the West Bengal Academy of Science and Technology (2022) and Fellow of COMSYS in 2025. He is also one of the members of the Technical Expert Group of the National Quantum Mission, supported by DST Govt. of India.
I have received multiple project grants in the areas of Embedded System Design, VLSI Design, Quantum Computing, Computer Vision, Cybersecurity, IoT from funding agencies like DST, MeiTy, DRDO, DAE, Ministry of Social Empowerment, UGC, TCS, Intel India, AWS etc. I have also served in various capacities in various higher education organizations both at national and international levels. I have published around 200+ research papers in referred journals and conferences, 6 patents and 3 Copyright and have graduated 24 Ph.D. students till date.
I am an Associate Editor of the Elsevier Journal of Computers and Electrical Engineering, Series Editor of Springer Transactions on Computer Systems and Networks, Series Editor of Springer Book Series on "Water Informatics" and Guest Editor of the Springer Journal of Applied Sciences. I am a Sr. Member of IEEE and ACM, Distinguished Visitor of IEEE Computer Society, Distinguished Speaker of ACM (2018-2020), Vice President of Data Science Society and Vice Chairman of CSI Kolkata Chapter. My areas of research are Machine Learning, Computer Vision, Reconfigurable Computing, Cyber-physical Systems, VLSI CAD and Quantum Computing.
