Exploring the Narratives of Mixteco High School Students:

Hi! Thank you for showing interest in my research. My name is Martín Cruz, and I am a College and Career Counselor at a high school and a doctoral candidate at California Lutheran University in the education leadership program.
What is the purpose of my study?
The purpose of my study is to explore the narratives of Mixteco High School students who are the first in their families to attend college and how they used aspects of community cultural wealth to engage in their college readiness. Community cultural wealth is a framework created by Dr. Tara Yosso (2005), which includes multiple forms of knowledge, skills, and abilities that people of color use to resist forms of oppression that are experienced in different contexts of their lives, including K-12 and college institutions. College readiness is defined as knowledge of university pre-requisites, application processes, researching higher education institutions and their programs, inquiring about letters of recommendation, writing college entrance essays, and understanding the types of financial aid available (Curry et al., 2023).
