Callison Elementary School History

Neysa Callison

Neysa Callison was a native Austinite born in 1922. After starting her own family, they moved to Round Rock where she was very involved in the community. Neysa was elected to the Round Rock School Board where she worked to create the Round Rock School District. She loved serving the community by helping children get the education they deserved. Callison Elementary was opened in 2008 and named after her for her dedication and constant desire to nurture others, especially children.

Presently, Callison is a Title I school in RRISD serving 700-800 students, with approx 46 percent of those being economically disadvantaged. The staff and students are divided into a House System (like the movie, Harry Potter). The School motto is "Four Houses, One Family" Each of the 4 houses represents one of the school's core values. Akili (swahili) means Wisdom/Mind, Forte (Portugese) means Body/Strength, Altruismo (Italian) means Character/Selflessness, and Valor (Spanish) means Grit/Courage. The houses are a support for the teachers, and students earn points for behavior, academics, and promoting kindness and inclusivity within our community.
