English Literature
The best way to prepare for GCSE English Literature is to know the texts inside and out and learn details on the characters.
Your knowledge of the texts is the key to success in the English literature exams.
Study guides can be really useful as can film adaptations of particular texts.
Knowledge organisers can be used to support and develop your ideas but they should not be a substitute for your own understanding of a text.
It's useful to apply a variety of revision approaches to learning the material you need to cover; you could create detailed mind maps for each of the characters. MindMeister is an online mind mapping application that allows you to visualise, share and present your thoughts.
Attend Engish Booster sessions in D1 (Wednesdays 3pm).
Take advantage of daily Supervised Study sessions (Flying Start, Working Lunch and Champions Hour).
You will be writing for over half an hour on some of the questions. Make sure you have gathered your thoughts and thought about what you want to say; it can be a bullet pointed list or a flowchart or a mind map or whatever works best for you! Pick out 3 or 4 key points or things that you think are important and relevant.Â
A little time spent planning at the beginning of the exam will help to make sure your essay has a clear and coherent structure and you have covered everything you need to.
Mark your own work to improve. Compare your answers to past paper questions provided in the Answers section of the this portal.
It is always useful to learn some quotes that might help with your analysis. See the individual text support pages on this portal for key activities that will help. Learn some quotes for each of the main characters and themes in your text.
