CA State Testing Information
This is an overview of the Physical Fitness Testing (PFT) for the state of California. Please find important information regarding the test, and instructions as to what to do the day of the test. The PFT will take place on March 6th, 2026. For questions or concerns, please reach out to us at testingquestions@caliva.org
The State of California invites students in grades 5th, 7th and 9th to complete the state Physical Fitness Testing.
Information about this testing can be found on the California Department of Education website: https://www.cde.ca.gov/ta/tg/pf/
The FITNESSGRAM is a comprehensive, health-related physical fitness test developed by The Cooper Institute. The goal of the FITNESSGRAM is to assist students in establishing lifetime habits of regular physical activity.
The PFT is not mandatory so students that attend should be encouraged to complete all the componets they are comfortable with.
The test will be administered on March 6th, 2026.
Someone at the PFT must be CPR-certified. Please see the outing policy for more information.
The State of California invites all 5th, 7th, and 9th graders to take the PFT. Students unable or unwilling to come in person should be documented via survey: https://forms.gle/pbYzk21UGievc5d2A
Communication about how to RSVP will be sent through Parent Square in early February. To learn more about the parent site, please click this link https://sites.google.com/californiava.org/cava-parent-testing-site/physical-fitness-test
PFT is typically held at a local park, where students can run or walk a mile and engage in other fitness activities comfortably.
The PFT will be hosted by a team of volunteers that will share in the duties of the event. For CAVA staff, this will satisfy your Q3 outing requirement.
Any enrolled siblings who attend the PFT event can participate in school activities planned by the school staff volunteer assigned for that station.
Score Sheets are for student view only. You do not have to collect the score sheets. The only thing to turn in after the PFT is the list of 5th-, 7th-, and 9th-graders who attended. We only have to report participation YES or NO.
If a student in your homeroom lets you know that they will not be participating in the PFT for any reason, you can send them this survey to document their reason. You can also fill out the survey for them. https://forms.gle/pbYzk21UGievc5d2A
