We're organizing a group of older (30's to 60's?) guys to get together and play basketball at the Pat Jones YMCA on Thursday nights.
Our desired athletic ability for our group of players is "medium".
We don't want a bunch of young whipper snappers who will wipe the floor with us older guys. But we also don't want too many old guys who are so out of shape that they can't get up and down the court without risking a coronary.
Our main goal of organizing this group is to have fun and get some exercise. If you're super competitive, then this group probably isn't for you.
These are semi-organized pickup basketball games. No refs. Call your own fouls.
We'll be playing full court games so we can run up and down the court to get some exercise.
If we have less than 10 guys show up and have to play 4 on 4 or 3 on 3, then we'll still play full court, but on one of the smaller cross courts.
We'll shoot free throws to pick the teams. If more than 10 guys show up, then the first five to make free throws are the first team. Second five to make free throws are the second team.
All games will go to 10 by 1s and 2s (regular basket is 1 point, 3 pointer is 2 points).
Winners keep playing. People who sat out the previous game get first shot at the next game. Free throws will determine any extra openings.
We'll try to get started as close to 7pm as we can. The Pat Jones Y closes at 9pm, so we'll probably be able to get in around 4-5 games with water breaks in between.
After we're done playing for the night, those that are interested can go out and grab a cold beverage together to wind down.
Getting this group organized is mostly about getting some exercise and having a weekly night out with a fun group of guys.
We care more about you being a fun person to hang out with than about your actual basketball prowess.

To start playing, we're going to need at least six guys to show up on a regular basis. That's the bare minimum that we'll need to play 3 on 3 games.
We'll send out an email on Thursday mornings asking people to let us know if they're playing that week. We want to make sure it looks like we've got at least six guys showing up that night. If not, we'll cancel that week.
If you decide to play, you don't have to be there every single week. But we'd like people to commit who can be there on a regular basis, so our numbers won't fluctuate wildly from week to week.
Plus it's more fun if we start to see the same faces and get to know each other better over time.
