(Technologies Fundamentals - 111533)
This course is designed to provide the basic fundamental competencies for the media technologies cluster courses and is to be offered as the beginning course at the freshman/sophomore level. The purpose of this class is to introduce you to at least three programs in the Adobe Suite as well as introduce you to, legal and ethical issues, fundamental tool and equipment skills, transferable knowledge sets, employability skills, communication skills, and terminology used throughout the industry.
As you learn in this course, try to finish each part within two weeks. It's like a rule to help you keep a good pace.
The main purpose of this unit is for you to become familiar with Photoshop while we focus on layers, layer order, and layer masking.
Understanding what layers are and how they function is the very step of being able to use Photoshop or other applications in the Adobe Suite. We will also learn how to do a layer mask, a type of modification called a non-destructive change.
Non-destructive changes are important because they save you a lot of time if you need to go back and re-edit parts of a project, and they also help you by not editing or destroying the work of other photographers and digital artists that may or may not be copyrighted. If you don't quite understand what a non-destructive change is at this point we will get very familiar with non-destructive changes as we move through our units.
We will also get an introduction to the Rules of Framing. The Rules of Framing are guidelines for how to position and capture things in a picture, photo, video, or artwork. They help make the image or scene look balanced and interesting. For example, you might put the main subject in the center or follow the Rule of Thirds, where you divide the image into three parts horizontally and vertically to place objects in the right spots. These rules make your pictures look better and more appealing!
I can define what a layer is in the Adobe Suite.
I can demonstrate or describe how layer order works in the Adobe Suite.
I can demonstrate how to add a layer mask to a layer.
I can describe how I used at least one of the Rules of Framing in my final project for this unit.
It should take you no longer than two weeks to work through this unit.
This unit focuses on layer adjustments and color theory. We will learn how to shade and then how to make our work look and feel more cohesive by learning about color theory, the rule of 60/30/10, and how those relate to cohesion.
It should take you no longer than two weeks to work through this unit.
