Brainstorm: What makes a student successful?
Reflection: Write down one reason why consistent attendance is important to you personally.
Brainstorm with Students: What makes a student successful?
Gather responses on the board (Examples might include: studying, completing schoolwork, listening in class, participating, etc.)
Introduce the Equation: Explain to students that there's a hidden factor that significantly impacts all of the factors they've listed.
Explain the Impact: Discuss how attendance acts as a multiplier in the equation. Even if students are great at studying, listening, and participating, their success is multiplied when they are consistently in class. Use real-life examples or analogies to illustrate this point:
An athlete who misses practices will struggle to perform well in games.
A musician who misses rehearsals will struggle to play in a concert.
Individual Reflection: Distribute index cards or slips of paper to students. Ask them to write down one reason why consistent attendance is important to them personally. Collect the responses and read a few aloud.
Group Discussion: Facilitate a brief discussion about the collected responses, emphasizing the common themes and the overall importance of attendance.
Campaign Overview: Clearly articulate the campaign's goal - to improve school attendance rates. Emphasize that this is a student-led initiative to create a more positive school culture.
Campaign Components: Introduce key elements of a successful campaign:
Clear message
Engaging visuals
Effective communication channels
Measurable goals
Student Roles: Discuss potential roles within the campaign (e.g., project manager, designer, writer, spokesperson).
