VOLUNTEERS are our faith community members participating in roles such as Reading Ministry, Communion Ministry, Liturgical Music, Flowers, Sacristan/Altar Linen, Collection, Counting, Rosters, PowerPoint Ministry, Church grounds/garden, PPC & PFC Councils, Church Hospitality, Sacramental Program, RI, Children’s Liturgy of the Word, Other. The Diocese of Cairns has adopted and adheres to the National Catholic Safeguarding Standards which apply to all parishes, ministries, and agencies under the jurisdiction of the Bishop of Cairns.
The Diocese of Cairns has a zero tolerance to abuse and will respond promptly to all abuse concerns, allegations and incidents. This includes contacting the relevant authorities (e.g. Queensland Police
Service) where there may be immediate risk of harm to any person, especially a child or adult-at-risk. The Diocese of Cairns is actively committed to fostering communities of safeguarding that recognise and uphold the dignity and rights of all.
The Parish of North Cairns and the Diocese of Cairns are committed to the care, wellbeing and protection of children, young people and adults at risk in our community. Your parish representatives, Helen and Deb are part of a diocesan team. They are available to assist with any safeguarding questions, concerns, disclosures, incidents or complaints. All parish workers, including clergy, religious, employees and volunteers are required to complete the Safeguarding Induction Training every 3 years. Blue Cards and Police Checks are recorded and updated as required for some volunteers (e.g. those working with children, and Parish Council members).
