School Spirit Over-time

Over the years, we have noticed that the school spirit here at Byrd High School has started to decline from its original state and we wanted to know why. We interviewed a few students and teachers that have told us about how amazing the school spirit was a few years ago. One of our interviewees, Hannah Howard said, “Well now it's on an incline, but for the past two years I think it's been on a decline because of the new rules but now we've gotten used to them.”
The school spirit is what stands out most about C.E. Byrd High School. With our purple and gold, the YellowJackets both show up and show out for most of the school events. In the past, “The hive at the games of all sports was just … electric.” says Mrs. Allen, our 9th grade counselor, who attended during the years of 2006-2010. Overall, the school pride will help C.E. Byrd becomes more of a family, and connected between all the students, if we put in the effort to increase it.
We have heard that the student council is trying to help bring back some of the things that they used to do. They are hoping to bring back the energy that Byrd used to have during games and during game weeks. We interviewed 9th grade teacher Monica Speyer and she stated, “They are going to try and start decorating the halls during game weeks.”
With students, teachers, and the student council all stepping up, Byrd High School’s school spirit is starting to spark again. From decorating the halls to cheering louder at games, the Yellowjacket's are finding new ways to show their pride. As these efforts grow, so will the energy and connection across campus, bringing Byrd’s school spirit to a whole new level.
