I would like to thank all of you for an opportunity to continue to serve this distinguished organization.
Last year, our Lodge assisted the Chinatown merchants and residents to combat crime. We joined the mayor and the chief of police on a walk through Chinatown and spoke with merchants and shoppers, sharing crime prevention messages to promote a safe Chinese New Year. Due to many efforts, the crime rate had been reduced significantly according to San Francisco Police Department. We see many tourist are coming back to Chinatown as well.
We continue our tradition of hosting Miss Chinatown and her court at the Lodge and participate in numerous community fundraising efforts. Highlights include our sponsorship and involvement in the Chinese Hospital Women’s Auxiliary’s “Gala of Babies Born at the Chinese Hospital”, the Chinese Hospital Gala, and the Chinese Hospital Golf Tournament. Past President Cathy Cheung led our San Francisco team to win a number of tournaments including YMCA Golf fundraiser.
We also co-sponsored the APA Social Services Children’s Art Contest and are a proud community supporter of the 2025 APA Heritage Month in San Francisco, along with the APA Heritage Foundation and their Official Celebration Partners. Our educational, leadership, and scholarship programs remain a core focus of our mission. We continue to provide scholarships and learning opportunities for local high school and college students as they pursue their educational and career aspirations.
On January 20, 2025, the President of the United States issued an executive order redefining birthright citizenship. A bill titled H.R. 569 – Birthright Citizenship Act of 2025 is now under consideration. This bill seeks to limit birthright citizenship by redefining what it means to be “subject to the jurisdiction” of the United States. We joined San Francisco City Attorney David Chiu at a press conference announcing that the City of San Francisco—along with other Bay Area cities—has filed a lawsuit challenging the Executive Order. Currently, the case is pending at the United States Supreme Court. We will continue to monitor this issue.
Last September, we successfully corroborated and supported National to host the National Convention in San Francisco. I take this opportunity to thank our host committee leaders, Past Presidents Davace Chin, Melanie Chan, Robert Wong, Calvin Louie, Cathy Chung, and our Vice President Joanna Tom for their leadership. All delegates and guests had praises and thanks to our Lodge.
On February 17, 2026, we will welcome the Year of the Horse. As we gather with family and friends to celebrate, I would like to wish everyone a happy, healthy, and a prosperous New Year and again extend my gratitude for your service to our Lodge and the community!
Respectfully,
Sherman Tang,
President C.A.C.A. San Francisco Lodge
