In Brazil, only 28% of municipalities have mapped their climate risks, and fewer than 1% have published climate adaptation plans. More than 4 million people were directly affected by climate events between 2013 and 2022, with the severest impacts falling on marginalised, peripheral communities who often lack awareness of the risks they face.

About the organisation

Visão Coop is an initiative dedicated to tackling the climate crisis by bringing together knowledge, technology, and collective action in South America. It maps and activates technologies for biome regeneration and climate adaptation in ecosystems and urban peripheries, promoting structural, territory-based responses to climate challenges using digital platforms, audiovisual media, and knowledge production. It also employs tools and platforms to improve digital public infrastructure (DPI) and build a taxonomy of climate action based on local ecological characteristics, guiding preventive and integrated solutions that can reduce climate risks at their source. Founded in 2020 after co-founder Fabrícia's home was destroyed by floods in Queimados, Visão Coop works across Brazil's urban peripheries using its Território platform (combining AI, real-time data, and local knowledge), community Mutirões (collective mobilisation events), audiovisual storytelling, and 3D climate modelling to connect vulnerable communities with the tools and relationships they need to adapt. Since 2020, Visão Coop has mobilised 14,000 people across 38 communities in 8 states and trained more than 300 community leaders. BNDES recognised it as one of Brazil's 10 most relevant impact enterprises of 2023, and in 2024, the organisation delivered macro-recommendations to the G20 Sherpas through Startup20's environmental task force. In 2025, it was invited by the COP30 presidency to coordinate climate adaptation efforts across South America.
