Subject Guidance

Before you complete the online subject preference form, take time to consider how your subject choices may affect your ability to access different courses/programmes after Saint Ciaran’s. Here are some points to consider:

• If you are choosing more than one BTEC qualification check 3rd level course entry requirements: for example at the moment Queen’s University will only accept one BTEC, while University of Ulster will accept most combinations.

• If you are choosing both BTEC Engineering and A-Level Design and Technology check 3rd level course entry requirements: many Engineering courses will accept either subject.

• If you are choosing both BTEC IT and Software Systems Development check 3rd level course entry requirements: some universities may not accept both subjects.
