During the recent period of school closure, the role of parents supporting learning was more important than ever.
Many different organisations surveyed parents to find out about the experience of home-learning for parents. One of those organisations is Parentkind. From their survey of parents in NI, the top five support/resources identified to be most helpful to support learning from home are:
1 Video clips to explain subject matter (this was also identified by NI Parents' Parliament prior to Covid-19, as the most useful resource for parents to support learning) (45.2%)
2 Direct communication between the child and their teachers (44.2%)
3 Feedback from teachers on work completed (43.7%)
4 Live online classes (41.7%)
5 Reassurances about learning expectations during school closures (40.6%)
In this session, we will explore the ways school leaders and class teachers can meet the needs parents have identified in supporting learning at home. We will look at case studies from schools and we will access technical support, should that be needed.
