Important Kindergarten  Information

Kindergarten students getting started for the school day

Please encourage your child to take ownership of their school day by completing homework, packing their backpack, getting their uniform ready for the next day, having their snack, lunch or lunch choice, and water bottle ready.

Homework

*Math Homework (I will post their math homework pages on my calendar)

*Read every night! Eventually I will send home a book bag with books at your child's level, but please still read to them or with them every night.

*You can also have your child read and write their sight words. A list of the Kindergarten and first grade words are on a separate tab above. I post the letters/sounds and sight words on my homework calendar so you know what we are practicing each week.

*Children can also practice iReady at home (after we take our diagnostic in September).

Red and Yellow Folders

On Friday your child will bring a yellow Friday Folder, please empty the folder and send it back on Monday. In the Friday Folder you will find student work and any forms from the school. The red folders are homework folders. We are going to try something different this year with math homework. Instead of ripping out the pages and sending them home week by week, we are going to send home the entire book and your child can work on it at their pace and bring back the pages (in the red folder) when they finish a module/unit. Occasionally we will send home other homework (like flashcards, or a fun project) in the red folder for them to do.

Snacks/Water/Extra Clothes/Pencil Box or Bag

Please send 2-3 healthy snacks daily. It is very helpful to have a snack bag separate from their lunch box/bag. Water bottles are encouraged as well. Please put your child's name on everything!  Water bottles will be kept in the classroom, snacks will stay in their backpacks, and lunches will go in the lunch bin.

Please have your child keep an extra set of clothes in their backpacks in case of messes or accidents. Also, we use EXPO markers a lot and they can get on clothes easily. It does not come out easily, so feel free to send in a large shirt/smock that your child can wear during the times we use the markers. They will keep their shirt in their classroom cubby.

Also, due to COVID, we are trying to limit sharing our school supplies. Please supply your child with a pencil box or pencil bag that they can keep their own personal supplies in. If you ordered an EduKit, we can help them fill their box/bag with their supplies.  Pocket sanitizer and a pencil sharpener are optional. They will probably also be taking their pencil boxes with them to Specials. You might want to tape a picture of your family inside your pencil box so your child can look at it when they are sad and missing you.

School Lunch

Please talk with your child about what they are having for lunch each day because they need to come in and make their lunch choice so the cafeteria can plan ahead and have enough food. Please see the weekly lunch menu here.

Aftercare/Car line

Please let me know if your child is going to our after school program Champions, or will be picked up either by car or walkup. We are continuing to use the same Driveline system that we did last year. You should have a number for your family that staff will type in to dismiss your child. Please review the new procedures and always have your number visible in your car or in the walk-up line. Staff members and our Leadership Team will be helping walk children in and out.

Birthdays

If it's your child's birthday, you may send them in with a small gift bags for each student. Please no birthday treats due to allergies.  We currently have 25 students in the class. If they are having a birthday party outside of school, they can only pass out invitations if they invite the whole class. I will email you a Kindergarten Directory that you can fill out if you want so that you can exchange personal information with each other to plan birthday events and playdates that occur outside of school.

Our Strive for Independence

We encourage students at C2E to be independent, to take care of their needs, to be responsible for their belongings and their behavior, and to try their best.

C2E students should know how to:

*buckle and unbuckle their seat belts on their own (this helps carline go faster),

*unpack and pack up their backpacks,

*use school tools appropriately,

*button and unbutton their clothes,

*zip/unzip their clothes,

*clean up after themselves

*open snack and lunch bags

*tie shoes (age appropriate)

*go to the bathroom and tend to their needs on their own
