Content

Writing:

• We use a program called Step Up to Writing

• Students will learn to write 2-3 sentences by themelves by the end of the year

• We use Fundations and sight words to help encourage students to write on their own

• Beginning quarter 3 we will begin taking sight word tests

Reading: 

• We use a program called Open Court Reading for whole group and Literacy Footprints for small group instruction

• Small groups are conducted 2-3 times a week and students work with a teacher and independently

Math:

• We use a math program call HMH Math

• Students are grouped by level and I teach the 1st grade level group

• We will begin small groups in Math starting in January

• Please use the math calendar for up to date information on what lesson we are on

Science: 

• We use a program called FOSS Science and will cover many different topics

• We also will do fun experiments in class!

Social Studies:

• Students will learn about:

  • Rules and Communities (Civics)

  • Money and Needs (Economics)

  • Maps and Places (Geography)

  • Past Events (History)
