Homework

Your child will receive an orange folder to be their "Homework Folder". Please check it every night and remove any pages on the "Left at Home" side. Anything that needs to be returned to school, or that you would like the teachers to see, should go in the "Right Back to School" side. It is crucial that you check this folder every night so that you receive all important information from us, and make sure that papers don't start to stack up in your child's folder!

The most important homework in first grade is to read for at least 15 minutes EVERY night! This includes you reading to your child, your child reading to you, siblings reading together, your child reading to a pet or toy, your child reading to themselves, etc. Each month, your child will receive an animal reading log to complete and return at the end of the month for a prize.

Your child will receive a "Homework and Practice Journal" for their math homework. They will keep this at home all year and gradually work through the pages, returning it at the end of the year once it's all complete. There is one page of homework for each lesson and each lesson takes between 1 and 3 days, so there will not be a page every night. We will send home a letter at the beginning of every module letting you know which lessons will be taught on which dates so you can help your child follow along.
