Student is referred by a parent, teacher, administrator, or self (yes, a student may refer themself!) by completing the DCSD Gifted Referral Form.
Within 30 school days of us receiving the completed referral form, we will notify you that the referral process has started.
We will collect a robust body of evidence (ability and achievement test scores, parent input, teacher rating scale, student performance, etc) to help the GT identification team get to know the student.
The GT identification team will meet to review the data and make a determination. One of three outcomes will occur - Yes, the student does qualify for gifted and talented services; No, the student's needs are adequately met in the regular education classroom; OR the student receives a talent pool determination, meaning we have some qualifying evidence but not enough to make a determination so we take time to gather more data and plan to re-examine the evidence later.
Families are notified of the outcome via email.
If the child is found to qualify for gifted and talented services, withing 45 school days, we will create an ALP (Advanced Learning Plan) that includes at least one academic and one affectve (social/emotional) goal. These goals are created with input from the GT facilitator, teachers, parent(s), and the child themself.
