Lake Nottely, located entirely in Blairsville Georgia, is actually a reservoir created by the Tennessee Valley Authority in 1942, when they built Nottely Dam across the Nottely River. Originally, the dam and lake were created to supply power to the area and for flood control, however today, most people view the lake as a beautiful outdoor play area. Lake Nottely covers 4,180 acres of Blairsville, with about 106 miles of shoreline. Two marinas, several public boat ramps, and Poteete Creek Campground all provide ample access to the lake, and a beach and recreation area. You can boat to one of the deserted islands on the lake, or a secluded cove, and easily imagine you’re the only person on the entire lake, to just soak up the peacefulness and beauty of everything around you.
