BHS launched the Link Crew program in the spring of 2014. It has been an exciting and welcome addition to our high school!
Link Crew is a freshman orientation and transition program, as well as a leadership training program. Junior and Senior students apply for link crew leader positions and are trained in team building activities, cooperative skill development, leadership and discussion skills.
Link Crew is a way for Byron High School to address three of our priority areas. Link Crew has the power to change school climates...making good schools even better! It creates a sense of comfort and belonging for the incoming freshmen students and also creates a “link” of respect between upperclassmen and their freshmen peers. In addition, it empowers junior and senior leaders to use and grow their own leadership skills in helping freshmen find their place in the high school. More and more studies show that if students have a positive experience their first year in high school, their chance for success increases dramatically. Link Crew provides the structure for freshmen to receive support and guidance from juniors and seniors who have been through the challenges that high school poses, and understand that the transition to the high school can sometimes be an overwhelming one.
