Our goals are to have fun, make new friends, and improve chess skills through practice and study.
Within this site you will find photos from our practices and tournaments, practice days/times, chess puzzles, and information for beginner, intermediate, and advanced play.
Practices:
Usually Tuesdays and Thursdays at the High School in Mr. Findlay's classroom
Matches:
Starting late in the school year we compete against other local schools in the area in the Rochester Area Scholastic Chess League (RASCL). If interested in competing, please reach out to Mr. Findlay at jacob.findlay@byron.k12.mn.us
Jacob Findlay teaches post-high school planning, mentorship, Introduction to Engineering Design, and Digital Electronics at Byron High School. In addition to chess club, he helps coach varsity soccer and is a mentor for Byron's Robotics Team. He loves to go for long walks with his wife, son, and two pups.
Rob Warneke has taught in Byron since 1993 covering 8th grade math through Statistics. He has coached football, boys and girls basketball, as well as girls track. Rob lives in Pine Island and is married with four children. He is an avid Star Wars, Matrix, and Lord of the Rings fan.
Matt Weyers teachers 7th grade social studies at Byron Middle School. He is a proud Wisconsinite who enjoys the outdoors, learning new things, and spending as much time as he can with his wife and kids.
