Global Scholars students won 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place in the 2024–2025 Ben Ferencz Creative Expression Competition hosted by the Holocaust & Human Rights Education Center.
1st place - Evan Thorsen – A Window Through Time (Digital)
A tribute to Cambodian photojournalist Dith Pran, showing how his images ensure the world never forgets the Cambodian Genocide.
2nd place—Zabelle Shil—The Pages They Couldn’t Burn (Mixed Media)
A diary of poems and sketches in the voice of resistance fighter Vladka Meed, honoring her quiet courage and resilience.
3rd place - Theo Lashmet – 但他们继续前行 (But They Went On) (Collage)
A powerful piece inspired by Nanjing Massacre survivor Xia Shuqin, symbolizing human perseverance in the face of unimaginable tragedy.

The Changemaker Project 2025 Winners
This year, twelve Byram Hills teams shared their projects alongside peers from across the country—and six were named among the Showcase’s Top 10. Special congratulations to the Health Heroes team, Angjelina Vataj and Della Gonzalez, who received the People’s Choice Award for their outstanding global health initiative!
Holocaust and Human Rights Education Center Student Leadership Award 2024
The Neil Ginsberg Award for Human Rights at the HHREC Human Rights Institute for High School Student Leaders, for work to combat sex trafficking, was awarded to Charlotte Brodbeck.

Congratulations to the following Year 2 students on their awards at The Changemaker Project Showcase 2023! Allie Waxman, Ana Byrnes and Sophie Dockswell of The Pleasant Politics Party were chosen as the overall winners! Rielle Blassi, Breaking Toxic Ties, and Jessie Freiberg, Pura Vida, were selected for the top 10 in the overall category. Alex Woodworth, The Westchester Divide, was selected the winner in the Poverty Alleviation category and Allegra Jooss-Mangerini, Save the Carriage Horses, was selected as the winner in the Educational Advocacy category.
