Celebration time: a tremendous well done to our committed Year 1 team who have worked tirelessly to support the Year 1 children with their phonics. Our validated Phonics data is another record high with 88% of our children being secure, which is above the national average. Well done to all our children for working so hard on their phonics.
This week we've been carrying out our Summer assessments and finalising school reports. Reports will be emailed out to parents on Friday 5th of July so please look out for these. On the following Monday, 8th July, it will be a Tray Day (all classes except Year 1). Year 1 parents, please come along on Tuesday 9th July instead as this will give you an opportunity to meet Mrs Mumby. We welcome you to visit your child's classroom so they can share their books and learning with you, from 3.15 - 4.15pm.
It was great watching Reception Rainbows host their first class assembly last week. They spoke clearly and were very confident - they're definitely ready to move up to Year 1.
Don't forget sports days are next week! Refreshments will be on sale.
Byfleet's Got Talent rehearsals are underway and the top two from each class have been chosen for the finals. We'll announce the finalist in Monday's assembly next week. The BPS's Got Talent finals will be on Monday 22nd July - our judges (Simon, Alicia and Amanda) are looking forward to judging the amazing talent on offer! Who will win the £30 voucher? You've got to be in it to win it!
Year 5 and 6 took part in a Netball friendly competition at The Marist. Well done everyone!
Today we invited our new Reception children for September 2024 into school for their second induction day with their families, for a Teddy Bear's Picnic. Our new reception teacher, Miss Coleto, and the reception team enjoyed welcoming our new families to BPS. Thank you to Mrs Wyatt for organising the fun Teddy Bear's Picnic.
Reception enjoyed the first of their swimming lessons today. They did a fantastic job of blowing bubbles and going under water.
Year 5 paid a visit to Byfleet Library today - it's great to see so many children choosing high-quality books to read. We look forward to seeing how many of our children take part in the Summer Reading Challenge at Byfleet Library. Details below...
Year 5 also visited Fullbrook last week and enjoyed a day full of activities, in preparation for them choosing their secondary schools in the Autumn term.
You may have noticed the beautiful flowers in the pots outside the office. A huge thank you to Mrs Clarke-Olds, Eleanor's mum, for donating and planting up these for us. They really do look gorgeous! We've also had Mrs Gibbons, Jackson's mum help revive our Wellbeing Garden on the playground - it's looking wonderful and the children are thoroughly going to enjoy this space. Thank you to other many parents to attended Mrs Wyatt's Wellbeing Garden working party. We couldn't do it without your support!
Next week Tuesday, the children meet their new teachers for 2024/25. Year 6 will visit their new secondary schools. Year 6 parents - please remember to complete the Google Form emailed to you, to let us know your child will be attending their new secondaries. This will allow us to record their absence accurately.
This week, Mr Harris, EEEA's CEO, visit BPS and carried out a Learning Review. He carried out a deep dive into Phonics, Reading, Maths and our 3Ps Curriculum. We are pleased with the outcome and validation that we provide a strong offer for our children's learning. He was blown away by the exceptional learning behaviour and high engagement levels of the children. A big well done to everyone involved for providing our children with a terrific education at BPS!
If you are interested in hiring our school hall, a classroom, our outdoor hive or swimming pool for an event you may have in mind, don't hesitate to speak to Mrs Scott in the office who will be able to share our pricing details.

Attendance & Punctuality
Great news - our attendance is 96.06% for the year so far!
We continue to be on track for meeting our 96% target for the year!
Monthly Attendance winners:
September 98.85% Year 2
October 99.34% Year 2
November 97.91% Year 2
December 98.12% Year 4
January 97.17% Year 6
February 97.40% Year 6
March 97.91% Year 4
April 98.26% Year 2
May 98.37% Year 6
We talk a lot to the children about the importance of punctuality and attendance. During my routine daily walk around school last week, the Year 5 class spoke with me about them having 100% attendance for Week 2 of this term, which they were very proud of. This is remarkable, given that we've only had 3 classes this year with 100% attendance all week!
Just to remind parents/carers that if they take their children out of school without authority for 5 or more days (which do not have to be consecutive) , they will be liable to receive a penalty notice.
Currently the amount payable under a penalty notice is £60.00 per parent/carer per child if paid within 21 days. Thereafter the amount increases to £120.00 if paid between 21 and 28 days. If the penalty notice remains unpaid after 28 days, the Local Authority will consider a prosecution in the Magistrates Court. Please note that penalty notices are issued per parent/carer per child so a family of two parents and two children will receive 4 penalty notices.
Please view our Attendance Policy here for further information.
