Dear Parents/Carers,

  • This week our Year 6s took their End of Key Stage tests (SATs) and ended it with a wonderful pizza party to celebrate all their hard work. We are incredibly proud of how the children conducted themselves. A big thanks to our staff who supported the smooth running of SATs this week.

  • Please see the letter here that we sent out this week regarding Byfleet's Queen's Jubilee arrangements. All the children will eat at the same time so everyone can enjoy the picnic together - younger siblings are welcome. Unfortunately no dogs are allowed. We hope you can make our celebration picnic in school.

  • Thank you to our Friends of Byfleet PTA for organising a Krispy Kreme donut sale today - thanks for supporting their fundraisers!

  • Thank you to the parents who applied to become a Parent Governor to serve on our Local Advisory Committee (LAC). Our clerk will inform us of the outcome shortly and we'll keep you updated shortly about who our new Parent Governor will be.

  • We are looking for a volunteer to help us out with supervising our children during transitions between swimming lessons. This will likely be between 9am - 12pm Monday - Thursday for the summer term. This is a great opportunity to catch a tan or read a book between the swap over of groups of children during their swimming lessons and will really help us out. If you are able to help us, please log your interest here.

  • There are still many children wearing trainers on non-PE days. Please remember that black school shoes (not black trainers) are what we expect children to wear with their school uniform.

  • If you drop off any items for children via the school office, please ensure these are labelled.

  • Just a reminder that we run a cashless office at Byfleet Primary and therefore unable to accept any cash for after school care, clubs and trips from parents. All payments are to be made via SCOPAY, unless payments are received in a timely manner these extra curricular activities cannot take place.

Year 3 & 4 Trip to Chessington

Last week, Years 3 and 4 went on their second school trip of the year to Chessington World of Adventures. Both classes experienced a workshop run by the staff at Chessington related to the topic they are studying, as well as having a chance to look around the zoo area (though sadly we were unable to go on any of the rides this time!).

Year 3 are studying Predators, so took part in a workshop called Bones Alive. This looked at the different types of bone structures in animals, how to identify animals from skeletons and how bones can provide us with information regarding hunting habits.

Year 4 are studying Blue Abyss and experienced a workshop looking at Marine Conservation. This involved the study of the aquarium on site at Chesssington and also looked at different aspects of how humans can alter their lifestyles to reduce the impact on the world's oceans.

Both year groups stopped for lunch and then had some time to experience the zoo, paying particular attention to any relevant animals which are useful to the topics which are being studied.

We all had a great time and the children really enjoyed the 'hands-on' learning and experience from the workshops attended.

All Stars Cricket

We are fortunate to have a Sport Coach from All Stars Cricket work with our staff and children in Year 5 and Year 3 this term.

We look forward to seeing what useful new skills they are taught during their PE lessons.

YeaR 5 Greek Workshop

Last week, Year 5 had a visitor come in and talk them all about what life was like 2,500 years ago in Ancient Greece. They explored the fascinating differences between the Greek city states of Athens and Sparta. Children had a chance to explore Greek clothing, practised army drills and tried on armour. We also we created our very own Ancient Olympics. Everyone had a great day, well done Year 5!

WEAR BLUE FOR RHYTHM & BLUES!

On Tuesday 21st June 2022, we will be holding a ‘wear blue for World Music Day’ event, by asking each child to wear a blue item of their choice.

We are participating in this day as it is a great opportunity to encourage children to appreciate and celebrate music.

We'd love it if you could help support our music department, so we ask that you pay a donation of £1 per child via SCOPAY as part of this mufti.

Summer Reading Challenge

  • Libraries will be once again running the Summer Reading Challenge aimed at primary children. Visiting a library is a great way for parents/carers to explore different types of books with their children, and Surrey Libraries have a fantastic range of online resources. You can find out more about what’s happening at your local library here.

Byfleet Village Parish Day 2022

We are delighted to be taking part in Byfleet Village Parish Day on Saturday 16th July at Byfleet Recreation Grounds and our Byfleet Primary children have already started making some art work that will be displayed on the day.

Over the Easter break, some of our children took part in an Easter Eggstravaganza colouring competition at Byfleet Library and the winners have been chosen to be the Royal Family on Parish day. They will parade through the village in a horse drawn carriage with the Mayor to officially open and have won gift vouchers and free fair ground rides.

We are proud to announce the winners:

The Royal family are (left to right):

Prince Ben B, aged 6 (St Mary's) Queen Holly Cozens, aged 11 (St Mary's) King William Seymour, aged 8 (Byfleet Primary) Princess Chloe Withers, aged 7 (Byfleet Primary).

New Catering Company

We are pleased to announce that a new catering provider called Chartwells will be preparing freshly cooked meals for our children at Byfleet from September.

We are excited about the prospect of having our own kitchen and look forward to the delicious, wholesome food that they will prepare.

We are currently liaising with Chartwells and building works are due to take place over the summer holidays.

Please continue to use this to report your child's absence in the morning (before 9:15am) to the school office (with child's name, class, detailed reason for absence and anticipated return date to school).

School Improvement

This term we are starting to utilise a computer programme called Reading Plus, which the Year 6s have trialled for us. We are delighted by the progress the childen have made since starting the programme and look forward to using this with our Year 4 and 5 children this term.

PLEA for help

We are currently running a little low on pritt glue sticks at present.

A little bit of kindness goes a long way

Kindness takes many shapes and sizes: saying thank you, giving up your seat on public transport or donating to a charity are just a few kind things we could encourage each others' to do. We'd love to know what kind things our Byfleet children and families do......

In a world that needs us to be a little more connected, it is time to inspire and show the world how connected we are by raising 1 million acts of kindness.

To join in and inspire, simply share the act of kindness you have completed.

There are two ways in which you can share:

  • You can either write your own story to share your act of kindness with the world OR

  • Use the pre-filled drop down list to pick the act of kindness you have achieved. (You can also add a picture on the upload to share your story.)

Even the smallest acts can have huge impacts on society so please share it below for it to be included in our 1 in a million target.

Class Assemblies

It's been a while since we've been able to invite you into school. We can't wait to invite you back into school to see your child's class assembly. We will continue to reduce the number of children we have together in the hall so will only move to 'whole school' assemblies once it is safe to do so. In the meanwhile, each class will host their class assembly to their parents and one or two other classes in the school hall. These will start at 8.55 - 9.20ish so please join us in the school hall on the day that your child's class assembly has been scheduled.
