It has been a vibrant and memorable last two weeks in school, filled with moments that truly showcase our pupils’ enthusiasm, teamwork, and creativity. 

Highlights from Last Week

• Sports Day — A fantastic day of energy and encouragement, with pupils giving their all and supporting one another throughout each event.

• Outdoor Classroom Day — Classes embraced learning beyond the walls, exploring nature, problem‑solving outdoors, and enjoying hands‑on activities.

• Year 4 Class Assembly — Year 4 impressed us with a confident and thoughtful assembly, sharing their learning with their family.

We have another exciting week ahead, with a range of enriching experiences planned:

• Year 5 Fullbrook Away Day — A brilliant opportunity for pupils to build independence and take part in new challenges.

• Year 3 Horsell Common River Trip — Linking beautifully with their geography learning, pupils will explore river features first‑hand.

• Inclusion Coffee Morning — All parents and carers are warmly invited to join us next Wednesday at 9am.

• Reception WOW Day and Year 4 WOW Day — Two exciting themed days designed to spark curiosity and deepen learning through immersive activities.

What a busy and exciting two weeks we have had in Reception!

We have begun our new topic, Coastal Detectives, which has sparked lots of curiosity and enthusiasm. The children have enjoyed learning about a variety of fascinating sea creatures and discovering the three layers of the ocean: the Sunlight Zone, Twilight Zone and Midnight Zone. They have impressed us with their knowledge and have used their learning to create informative fact sheets about different underwater animals.

The children have also started swimming lessons, which have been a huge success. They have shown great confidence and excitement in the water and are thoroughly enjoying this new experience.

Another highlight was our first Sports Day. The children demonstrated excellent teamwork, determination and sportsmanship throughout the event. We were incredibly proud of how well they participated and encouraged one another.

We were also lucky enough to enjoy a wonderful day of outdoor learning in beautiful weather. Activities included subtraction using leaves and twigs, creating an emotional weather forecast, taking part in sensory bingo and helping at the Byfleet allotment. The children loved exploring, learning and working together outdoors.

For the first time, Byfleet took part in an Outdoor Classroom Day. Throughout the day, students participated in curriculum-linked activities including integrating maths, science and English outdoors as well as mindfulness activities and becoming Byfleet Chefs/Byfleet Artists. 

This week, Year 4 had their class assembly about the ancient Mayan civilisation. The assembly followed a traditional Mayan family, who followed Mayan farmers, Gods, Religious Leaders and ended with modern day archeologists discovering the civilisation. Well done year 4!

In design and technology, Year 4 will be immersing themselves into becoming a Byfleet chef. They tasted different types of soups and breads based on appearance, taste, smell, texture and made their own personal assumption. 

Sports Day 2026 was a day filled with fun, resilience and teamwork! We were so proud of all children giving everything a go and demonstrating our school values for the whole event. It was especially great to hear children cheering on their house and class. A big shout out to our Year 6 Sports Crew and House Captains for helping to organise and run events for both KS1 and KS2 Sports Days. Thank you to Friends of Byfleet for providing refreshments for the day - they were very popular!

Well done everyone!  

Just to remind parents/carers that if they take their children out of school without authority for 5 or more days (which do not have to be consecutive), they will be liable to receive a penalty notice. The issue of a Penalty Notice will also be actioned where a pupil has incurred 10 or more unauthorised sessions during the preceding 10 school weeks. These also included 'lates' after the register has closed. 

**Changes to the National framework for Penalty Notices came into force for Penalty Notice Fines on 19th August 2024**

• First offence within a 3 year rolling period will incur a charge of £80 per parent, per child if paid within 21 days, Increasing to £160 per parent, per child if paid within 28 days.

• Second offence within a 3 year rolling period will incur a flat rate of £160 per parent, per child if paid within 28 days. 

• The third time an offence is committed within a 3 year rolling period for term time leave or irregular attendance the case will be presented straight to the Magistrates Court.

If your child is leaving Byfleet Primary School at the end of this year to go to secondary school, please see the attached website link around how to support them with preparing for the changes ahead. There is a short video and some tips to support them. Place2Be - secondary transition  

In school we will be working with the children in Year 6 on some of the Surrey Smart Moves programme which talks about the skills we need to prepare for transition and that every child in Year 6 will be going through the same thing. Feeling anxious is normal.
