Year 1 class assembly
Year 1 have had a very busy and exciting week! We are incredibly proud of how well they performed in their class assembly, where they confidently shared their learning all about different continents, oceans, and animals. The children spoke clearly and showed great enthusiasm, making it a wonderful experience for everyone who watched.
They also had a fantastic time during Football Day, demonstrating great teamwork and energy throughout the activities. It was lovely to see so many smiling faces!
With the recent sunny weather, the children have been making the most of being outdoors. They have particularly enjoyed spending time reading outside for pleasure, which has been a calm and happy way to enjoy the sunshine while developing a love of books.
Well done Year 1, for such a brilliant week!
Year 2 Trip to Hampton Court
Year 2 had a wonderful time at Hampton Court on Wednesday. The day was very busy and the children had great fun bringing our learning about The Tudors to life. We were so lucky with the weather as the sun shone all day! In fact, it was so warm that we had a picnic lunch in the gardens. A big thank you to the adults who gave up their time to come with us.
The Big Plastic Count
Year 3 and 4 took part in the Big Plastic Count, joining the UK’s biggest people-powered investigation into household plastic waste.
Year 3 NWSS Trip
Last week, Year 3 had an exciting trip to the North West Surrey Synagogue! They discovered the fascinating traditions of the synagogue and explored the meaning of Shabbat and Hanukkah. It was a wonderful opportunity to learn about culture, community, and celebration.
Wilder Schools Competition
Actions 4 Nature Competition!
Byfleet has partnered with Surrey Wildlife Trust to take part in The Wilder Schools Actions 4 Nature Competition!
When taking part you need to RECORD every action that you do on our interactive map by scanning the QR code on the flyer (otherwise it won't count).
The competition closes on SUNDAY 31ST MAY.
Good luck!
April Library Challenge
To continue our participation in The National Year of Reading, we are giving all the children a challenge in April, by asking them to join their local library.
Once they have joined we are suggesting that they visit the library twice in the month of April, although more regular visits are encouraged! Those children who are already members will just need to visit twice in the month. Anyone who completes the challenge will receive a certificate from their class teacher.
Joining the library is free and means that you can borrow up to 25 items, including books, audio books and ebooks.
The libraries most local to the school are Byfleet, West Byfleet, New Haw, Addlestone and Woking.
Once you have visited the library twice, let your class teacher know and they will organise your certificate!
Reception
Over the past two weeks in Reception, we have been very busy learning all about minibeasts. The children explored different types of minibeasts, where they live, and why they are important for our environment. We talked about habitats and how we can help keep these tiny creatures safe. The class were especially interested in learning about creatures that live underground, such as worms and ants, and how they help plants grow by improving the soil. We also had a visit from ZooLab which was incredibly exciting, as we got to hold the different creatures that were brought into school!
We also began learning about spring and looked for signs of the new season around our school. The children spotted budding flowers, warmer weather, and more insects outside. They enjoyed writing about the signs of spring in their books and sharing their observations with the class.
In maths, we have been focusing on number bonds to 10. The children used Numberblocks and their catchy rhymes to help remember the different combinations that make 10. We also explored 3D shapes, identifying shapes such as cubes, spheres, and cones and discussing where we might see them in everyday life.
With the sunny weather, we made the most of our learning garden by doing some planting and talking about how to care for plants. To finish our topic, we had lots of fun dressing up as bugs, which the children absolutely loved!

Surrey Safe Travel Team Parent Transport Survey 2026
Our school are once again assisting Surrey County Council’s Safer Travel Team to undertake research with parents on pupils’ types of travel to and from school.
The objective of the research is to develop a better understanding of the different types of travel used, and to ascertain if this is changing over time. The Safer Travel Team’s goal is to assist schools to continue to encourage safer and more active ways of travelling to school.
Please could I ask that you take the time to complete the survey using the link below. The deadline for completion of the survey is 12th April 2026 and the survey should be completed for each child that attends our school.
