Year 2 Assembly

A huge well done to Year 2, who shared their learning from this term with parents and carers last week. They were particularly proud to share their knowledge of many curriculum areas and the audience were very impressed with their recorder playing. Well done Year 2, keep up the fantastic work!

YEAR TWO - Let's Read

This week, Year Two had their second visit from the charity 'Let's Read'.

The children were all very excited to look at the selection of books and each child was able to select a book to take home and keep. The children certainly showed how much they loved reading, and were all keen to start reading straight away. We hope you enjoy reading these books at home!

YeaR 5 Learning

On Wednesday 6th March, Year 5 were invited to watch the dress and technical rehearsal of Fullbrook School's production, 'Everybody’s Talking About Jamie'.

The show encourages everyone, particularly young people, to be themselves and educates the audience about the power of language and the need to celebrate difference. ‘Everybody’s Talking About Jamie’ was a fun, heart-felt and feel-good musical where characters experience a journey of identity, resilience and friendship. The children left Fullbrook feeling "inspired" and saying "It was so good!".  When we returned to the classroom we spoke about all the key roles which are needed to put on such a successful performance. Maybe we have future costume designers, lighting technicians or stage managers in our class?

World Book Day

World Book Day 2024 was a huge success! Thank you for helping your child dress as 'a word' - it was lovely to see so many home made costumes and so many adjectives!

We had a great World Book Day assembly with staff taking part in 'The Masked Reader'. 5 grown ups read/ told a story from behind a screen and the children had to guess who they thought it was. A big thank you to Mrs Scott, Miss Munro, Mrs Tully, Mrs Consentino and Mrs Bell for their excellent reading and disguised voices!

Each class also had a Drop Everything And Read opportunity through out the day. The special World Book Day box travelled to each class and when it arrived, everyone stopped and the teacher read the story 'The Word Collector' by Peter H Reynolds.

Our monthly 'Book Buddies' activity took place in the hall instead of the classrooms. The mats were put on the floor and we added cushions and cuddly toys.

We had so many wooden spoons! Thank you so much for your support with this! We will be handing out some prizes and displaying them in the library and around school.

Our masked readers - were thrilled and a bit nervous read to the children in disguised voices.  Both Keystage 1 and Keystage 2 had such fun guessing who the masked readers were.

All of Year 6 had letters lined up amongst the daffodils and spelt out the sentence 'Year 6 Violet enjoy reading at home!'

the importance of reading

Here is a very simple, but effective, reminder of the importance of reading with your child everyday.

BPS Metacognition 'Thinking Project'

The school is currently 8-months into a 2-year project through 'Thinking Schools Network', affiliated with Exeter University.

Staff have undertaken 12 hours of training so far, to better understand how the brain works, growth mindsets and using key strategies to develop our children's metacognition.

The aim of our 2-year project is to fully embed the use of 'Thinking Frames' as a learning tool in all classes from Reception to Year 6. These will be complimented with 'Thinking Moves' to help children develop their own independence to support their thinking process and generate and record ideas when setting off to complete learning. For example, when comparing Hinduism with Christianity, children will use a 'Comparing Contrasting' frame to plot their ideas, which they can then use to support themselves independently writing a convincing paragraph about these two religions.

These can be use in all areas of the curriculum and we hope that by equipping our children with a set of 8 'Thinking Frames' (see below), they will be able to use these independently to steer and support their thinking.

Here are some examples of how 'Thinking Frames' are being used by our children so far. We're very proud of the staff and children for engaging so positively with our 'Thinking Journey' so far.

During the upcoming Parents' Evening, so look out for some 'Thinking Frames' in your child's books.

Why not ask them about these at home?

Attendance & Punctuality

Thank you to our families who work hard to ensure their children arrive on time, organised and ready to learn by 8.45.

This helps your child start their day settled and in the right frame of mind to learn.

Great news - our attendance is 96.25%! We're on track for meeting our target!

Just to remind parents/carers that if they take their children out of school without authority for 5 or more days (which do not have to be consecutive) , they will be liable to receive a penalty notice.

Currently the amount payable under a penalty notice is £60.00 per parent/carer per child if paid within 21 days. Thereafter the amount increases to £120.00 if paid between 21 and 28 days. If the penalty notice remains unpaid after 28 days, the Local Authority will consider a prosecution in the Magistrates Court. Please note that penalty notices are issued per parent/carer per child so a family of two parents and two children will receive 4 penalty notices.

Please view our Attendance Policy here for further information.

Inclusion

Parents Evening

For pupils with additional needs, who are on the school's SEND register, you will have been offered a longer appointment for parents evening. This extended appointment allows you the opportunity to discuss your child's progress towards targets and provision in place to support them with their teacher. Your child's teacher will share their SEND support plan or One Page Profile, and you will be able to share if there are any particular targets you would like them to focus on during the Summer term.

This is your second SEND meeting of the year, following the parent's evening appointments in Autumn term where the above information was also shared.

Sensory Garden: We are sending letters out today to some parents who we are inviting to join us to work together with their child, Ms Wyatt and Mrs Sharkey-Yun to help set up our sensory garden. We previously asked for volunteers, however as there was a technical issue with the google form we do not have the list of who responded. If you would like to be involved and do not receive an invite today, please email Mrs Sharkey-Yun on inclusion@byfleet.surrey.sch.uk

Schools travel SURVEY 2024

Surrey County Council’s Safer Travel Team (SCCSTT) are undertaking research with

parents on pupils' modes of travel to and from school.

The objective of the research is to assist them as they continue to develop a better understanding of the different types of travel used to and from school, and to ascertain if this is changing over time.  The Safer Travel Team’s goal is to assist schools to continue to encourage safer and more active ways of travelling to school.

This year they are offering a charity incentive for participation – SCCSTT will donate £25 for every 100 surveys completed to a charity that the parent will choose from either

Shooting Star children’s hospices or Change of Scene in Farnham
