PUBLIC USE OF SCHOOL FOREST

The Giezendanner School Forest's primary use is for environmental education. However, the District also encourages and permits the responsible use of the School Forest by the public for recreational activities as long as such use is in accordance with the provisions outlined in this policy.

1. The School Forest facilities are available for public use during daylight hours. School classes and groups have first priority.

 2. All Baldwin-Woodville Area School District policies, rules and regulations are in effect at the School Forest. No smoking or other use of tobacco products, use of alcoholic beverages or illegal drugs, vandalism, or disorderly conduct will be permitted.

3. School Forest trails are designed for foot traffic (hiking, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing). All equestrian activity is prohibited in the School Forest. The use of motorized vehicles, including three-wheelers, four-wheelers, motorcycles, mopeds and snowmobiles, and the use of bicycles in the School Forest is prohibited. Any exceptions to these prohibitions must be authorized, in writing, by school district officials.

4. Hunting or trapping of wildlife is prohibited in the School Forest.

 5. Fires are prohibited in the School Forest.

 6. Individuals utilizing the School Forest must have their pets under control at all times.

 7. The removal of flowers, plants, and fungi from the School Forest is prohibited.

8. Dead of fallen trees will be left alone for wildlife habitat unless there a safety concern, DNR concern, or removal is needed in order to improve educational offerings.

 9. Any planting in the School Forest must be authorized by the School Forest Committee and follow the guidelines of the school forest management plan.

 10. There shall be no littering in the School Forest. All garbage is to be carried out.

 Any questions or concerns regarding the use of the School Forest shall be directed to the School Forest Coordinator.

 All Baldwin-Woodville Area School District employees are expected to help enforce the School Forest policy and any related policies, rules and regulations.
