Day of the Dead
Guatemala has a truly unique way of celebrating Day of the Dead.
One special tradition unique to Santiago Saquetepéquez, Guatemala is that of 'Los Barriletes Gigantes'. Throughout the year, people labor over creating intricate and meaningful giant kites made of bamboo poles and tissue paper. Some of these can be several meters in diameter! On the Day of the Dead, these kites are flown in the cemeteries as ways to lead the deceased to their families.

Una tradición especial que se origina en Santiago Saquetepéquez , es la de los 'Barriletes Gigantes'. Durante el año, grupos de personas trabajan juntos para crear detallados y significativos barriletes gigantes hechos de bambú y papel de seda. Algunos barriletes llegan a tener varios metros de diámetro. Durante el Día de los Muertos, estos barriletes vuelan en los cementerios para mostrarles a los difuntos el camino hacia sus familias.
