Our campaign started when a parent reached out to a teacher with an idea. She was inspired by an incident in Florida and wanted to do something similar. The two put their heads together, inspiration struck and the "Kids Inspiring Kindness Campaign" was created. Learn more by checking out an article that was published in our local paper here. Or, listen to the "Kindness and Purple Star" podcast here.
We kick off each year with a t-shirt design contest. Students submit their designs and then vote on a winner that will be printed on t-shirts and sold to the community. We reach out to businesses for donations as well. All of the money raised goes into an account managed by our building's PTO. Classrooms can then decide on a project and go through a simple application process which is voted on by our Kids Inspiring Kindness board members. The board is made up of the school principal, two teachers and two parents. Once approved, the kindness journey begins.
We ask that all projects are documented with photos as an accountability piece, but also as a way to treasure such a meaningful memory that our students will never forget. If you're interested in creating your own kindness initiative at your school or organization, check out our "Completed Projects" page for some inspiration, and then head over to the "Downloadable Forms" page for everything you need to get started right away. There is no charge for the forms because, "kindness is free, sprinkle that stuff everywhere!"
