Some guidelines from samhsa.gov:

• Take time to talk with your child or teen about the COVID-19 outbreak. Answer questions and share facts about COVID-19 in a way that your child or teen can understand.

• Reassure your child or teen that they are safe. Let them know it is ok if they feel upset. Share with them how you deal with your own stress so that they can learn how to cope from you.

• Limit your family’s exposure to news coverage of the event, including social media. Children may misinterpret what they hear and can be frightened about something they do not understand.

• Try to keep up with regular routines. Create a schedule for learning activities and time to relax and have fun.

• Be a role model. Take breaks, get plenty of sleep, exercise, and eat well.

• Connect with your friends and family members when appropriate and safe.

Algunos consejos prácticos de samhsa.gov:

• Tome tiempo para conversar con sus niñ@s sobre lo que está sucediendo. Ofrezca información a su nivel que los niños y jóvenes puedan entender.

• Dele confianza a sus niñ@s. Asegureles que están seguros. Hágales saber que está bien sentirse triste o preocupados y comparta con ellos lo que usted hace para calmarse.

• Limite la cantidad de noticias sobre la enfermedad para usted y su familia, incluyendo redes sociales ya que hay mucha información que l@s niñ@s no pueden entender.

• Trate de mantener rutinas regulares. Haga un horario de actividades de aprendizaje, de esparcimiento y diversión.

• Conviértase en un modelo a seguir: Duerma bien, haga ejercicio, aliméntese bien.

• Conectese con familia y amigos de forma apropiada y segura.
